Pink Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 I just installed the Automatic Thumbnail Creator v1.0 contribution. I installed this contribution previously with another ISP and it has been working fine for some time. This contribution uses the GD library. A tech for my current ISP said that the GD library existed as part of their PHP installation, but that I would need to reference it from my osCommerce application, possibly in some config file. I looked in the two osCommerce config files and came away without a clue. If anybody does have a clue, I would certainly appreciate some advice as to how to get this modification running. Thanks in advance.
radders Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Try looking at 'server info' under 'Tools' in your admin. You should see information on the GD version there. As you say, there is not normally anything you as a user would have to do to enable it.
Pink Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 David, Thank you for your reply. I looked at 'server info' on the site where Automatic Thumbnail Creator is not working and could find no reference to the GD library. As might be expected, on the site hosted by a different ISP, where Automatic Thumbnail Creator is working, the server info indicated that the GD library was supported. According to ISP tech support, the reason for not supporting the GD library was that their PHP is a 'stock' version, which is unlikely to change in adopting the GD library in the future as it would run the risk of adversely affecting their other PHP clients. Ths tech did mentioned that they do run a PHP graphics library called 'NETPBM' which could possible work for my purposes. Can Automatic Thumbnail Creator work with NETPBM? The bigger question for me is about changing service providers. The "stock" PHP has lead to one problem. I don't relish having more due to limited service. If anybody has any thoughts, I would appreciate hearing them. -Pink
radders Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 The original version of this was based on the NETPBM contribution. Although NETPBM was installed on our server, we couldn't get it to work for some reason. If you have ImageMagic (?) installed then try using that contribution. Otherwise you have a pretty crap host :-)
