I just purchased 10,000 unique hits with a targeted campaign,(should start today) and was just wondering if anybody else has had any experince in buying traffic. The web site says that the traffic will be from abandoned domain names, no spam or popups.

You really need some method of tracking the incoming traffic you're paying for to see if it results in sales or not.

There are a number of contributions that will do this, I'm using osC Affiliate, but there are others.

I've been closely monitoring traffic from Google Adsense and I'm not too impressed by the conversion rate at the moment.

I did that too and I did receive the traffic promised. However, I don't think that was "real" traffic because not a single IP from the traffic did a single click. So I think this company has thousands of IP's which "visit" your site.

when i visit a domain and it isn't what it used to be or has no match to the original site i never make a single click.

unless the expired domains match your site's theme (for example in kitchenniche's instance): expired kitchen tool shops, i wouldn't expect much of a conversion.

i had always just assumed these types of companies would give you expired domains that haven't a single thing to do with your store.

I have supertracker installed and who's online enhancement.so I can see where "they" are coming from hopefully.

So you did not receive any sales from it? And my campaign is suposed to be specifically targeted to my shop.Who knows though just have to wait and see..

I would stear clear from companies like that, the hits they do send are not really targeted hits, i would and have paid for a yahoo listing and get around 1500 hits per month and the visitors are at least looking for what you sell most off the time.

just figure I would update this...Well I would advise anyone thinking about doing this to stay away...Long story short(and about 20 emails) they have a website to login and check your amount of hits and IP's that supposidly reach your site..compared them to my server logs and and supertracker and none of them matched or even showed reaching my site...I "paused" the campaign after 50 out of 11,000 supposidly hits and I am now tying to get my money back I as believe this is a fraudalent service. They flat out refuse to give a refund so I am in the process of doing a chargeback.I really did not want to do a chargeback but they left me no alternative (plus the way I was treated).I won't post the site but if you would like it pm me..but your money is definetly better in adwords or yahoo...lesson learned here. Logged into my account today and it changed from "paused" to "terminated suspended" so I am thinking Visa must have contacted them today.

These are little short of a scam. Either the hits are false and worthless, or the hits (as mentioned above) are completely irrelevant. If you sell tables and chairs, youw ant visitors who are looking for tables and chairs. Whilst you have a gnats chance in hell of a conversion from an untargetted visitor who happens to stumble upon your site, targetted traffic gives you a headstart. And by that, I DO NOT mean purchase the "targetted traffic" packages, as they aren't. Much better to invest your time reading up on good seo techniques, get well ranked on the major engines and get loads of free traffic.

I did warn you

Yes, lesson learned. Also got my money back today thanks US Bank/Visa :D

This type of traffic is not targeted at all... its unwanted expired domain traffic which is worthless. I guarantee a 99.9% bounce rate.

You get what you pay for.

If you do want targeted traffic try adtoll.com, they have great network campaigns that allow you to target. I use them for a couple of my sites and am happy with the results.

I had a client who bought a service that was 'guaranteed' to get her on page 1 of google, it turned out they bought sponsered link to thier site, so user had to visit thier site to then find info & link to my clients, what a con, she had a lot of trouble getting out of 'contract' too (nothing signed, yet cost her £100's)

I would`nt go for any 'quick' solutions, you can get on page one with proper techniques but it takes time especially if you want to stay there long term. Remember google has its 'sandbox'.

Email marketing and lead generation companies get a bad rap from these fraudulent marketing firms. There are ways to get quality "real" traffic from double opt-in confirmed email addresses, you just have to know where to look. When I first started I tried all the buy 1 Million emails/leads for $69 bucks deals and none of them ever worked. You have to work with the interactive agency's who are known for their email marketing. The only problem is a lot of them have minimum buy orders of $1000 or even $5000. The agency's my company have had the most success with in the past are WireStone Interactive, Viralytics Media and Nurun Inc. I'm sure there are hundreds of other legitimate email marketing company's out there, you just have to do a little digging.

Keep your head up :)

Do you think any company who purchases multitudes of domain names actually checks the domain name for what their content was? I doubt it.

Not to fail mention that if you can't get more than 1/1000 people looking for your products to click on your Google Adword link, how exactly do these companies get 10,000 users to click your link?

Pop-ups? Hidden links embedded below their own page to register a visit in your server log? Is it their bot farm?

Bottom line... Don't trust that type of traffic. It hasn't been reliable since the mid 90's.

And then there are still those "programs" that pay users for each site they visit. Not qualified, not targetted, and not valuable.
