mickyd Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Hi all. Im new to Oscommerce so please bare with me. I spent all day and night yesterday setting up my Oscomerce store and prowling thses forums for usefull contributions and such and thus far have found Oscommerce to be very easy to install and configure with most things being self explanatary. Im just having trouble with a couple of things and even though I have searched I cannot seem to find answers to my questions. The first thing is Produt Attributes and Categories: I am trying to establish a small store and community, Nothing Fancy, just nice and simple mobile media ie movies and ringtones etc where products are downloadable upon payment isntantly. My problem is that Mobile media comes with a lot of choice such as file type ie MP4, 3GP. Screen Res 176x144, 320x240. Also ther categories they fall under ie, comedy, Adult.. etc... I want to be able to organise these easily and convieniently for my users but it would seem that you can only set one attribute per Item where as I would like to set other attributes such as above so that when a user orders he can chose his Item / video or what ever and select from the following attributes, screen size and format but without adding another item in product attributes to assign another attribute. It seems to me that you have to create a new product in product attributes per attribute and that would mean that for me I would have around 6 entries or more per item. 1 for MP4, one for 3GP etc... this gets confusing.. Also would it be possible to filter attributes so for example a customer selects an Item.. then selects his screen size.. then his desired file format? Call me thick but I cannot see a way to organise this. I dont really want to have to set up a category for each file type, then screen res etc.. Surely there must be a way to do this using product attributes without the mega lsit of Items in Product Attributes panel? I am currently configured thus- Categories - Mobile Movies - Select A Screen Size - Size1 - Size2 - Size3 - Doing things this way means I have to have a category inside each screen size for genres eg adult, comedy and I have to replecate each genre inside each screen size parent category :( What I would like Ideally- Categories - Mobile Movies - Adult - Adult Humour - Comedy - Then use the product attributes to filter down to the required screen size then again for file type So a customer browses say eg Adult.. finds an item he likes... clicks it then has further "filter choices" 1. File Type 2. Screen SIze Buy Now Customer is Taken to correct file for download. Thus far one attribute does not affect another so if I have one product with 2 attributes one does nothing to affec the other :( If I try to set up 2 attributes and I select MP4 and Size 1 It still does not realise to filter one from another... Adding a product: Just a suggestion but it would be less confusing to be able to upload the product in the same place as you create a new item / product in oscommerce? Currently I have to create a product then go FTP the file to the directory. When you handle mobile media and have about 4 copies of the same thing but in different formats it gets confusing and long winded. Sorry my post was so long I just want to make what Im trying to say clear :) Hope someone can help me with this. Much appreciated.. Thanks
