If Im just using a "doing business as" name, instead of an LLC or Inc, what do i need to display in the footer of my stores pages. Can I display something like "opyright ? 2005-2006 my biz name, All rights reserved"

Under US law and most international conventions, a work automatically becomes copyrighted upon being set into a "fix formed". That's why professors can't legally steal the work of their students even though term papers usally don't carry copyright notices. There is no longer a legal requirement to register for copyright or post copyright notices on any work for it to be considered copyrighted. This was not always the case, hence the famous incident of Night of The Living Dead falling into the public domain because when it was first released the producer forgot to put a copyright notice on the film.

Today, most copyrighted works are registered with the Library of Congress for the sake of establishing a date of creation. Few websites are ever registered because of the constantly changing nature of websites. Besides you always have the WAY BACK MACHINE to prove existence of your site.

I hope that helps.

Hello

In the USA - Some works on your web site are automatically copyrighted...(ie Logos). Registration is perferable.

Check out the copyright office and download this report: http://www.copyright.gov/reports/thardy.pdf

For example, I may want to register a trademark in my logo that contains a droplet. I would have to search their database for droplet. There are as of today 336 trademarks or service marks that use a droplet.... I would have to submit my "MARK" to USPTO with a high possibility that it may be rejected...
