Considering using osCommerce

I was looking through the documentation, and it didnt look like I was able to do what I need.

 

It seems that the product quantity is on the product page, and doesnt consider the product options. If I were to have 2 sizes for a product, would I be able to have seperate quantities in stock for each size?

 

Also, Im wondering if it is possible to create private product categories, which will only be available to certain customers

osCommerce can do anything you want it. Sizes, Colors, Etc. you have to fine Contribs for what you are looking for

also, how easy is it to personalize the layout of the page?

for example, to make the products a dropdown list?

You mention being able to control stock levels of poduct attributes. Whilst this is not possible with the default install there are several contributions which will take care of this for you such as:

Chances are whatever functionality you require someone, somewhere has written a contribution for it.
