First attempt at site... would welcome feedback please.

"New Products for ..." - Changing display to Random, and text to "Featured"

Picture is coming for the "no picture available" item...

 

I have eliminated some icons and played with the font style/size a bit.

 

Any other suggestions/comments?

You need a thumbnail generator. Your small images should be about 8K not 72K.

 

You should add a purchase without account option to make it easier for people to purchase.

 

You photos are nice, but they should have backdrops instead of dining room chairs. If you are telling people that you have a surprise painting on the inside of the mailbox door, maybe you should add a more pix contribution since it is a selling feature rather than a surprise.

 

For shipping, 5.99 sounds a lot cheaper than 6.05, 7.99 than 8.05 etc.

 

How does a customer pay?

 

Who is webbeans? You mention them on your home page, but I can't find a link to them.

 

Your build your own verse item is nice, but I'll bet that there isn't a verse 176 in Chronicles, Chapter 150.

 

Can you sell clock mechanisms with the clocks, or is it easy to find them? Or, should you add an attribute that would include the clock mechanism with the clock? I think that the easier you make it for customers, the more likely that they will buy from you.

1 - I will look into the thumbnail thing. I definately want to keep the size smaller.

2 - I thought I had the purchase without account thing already - I set it up on Paypal like that... is there something I need to do on osCommerce?

3 - photos... I am working on updating the photos. Those were all I had for now. And I will add the inside of the mailbox lid. Thanks.

4 - Actually, the shipping has worked out to be just a little low, so I upped it to 6.50... still not good?

5 - How does a customer pay?? Customer pays thru Paypal. Are you saying that I should specify that somewhere? If so, where would be best?

7 - Build your own verse: The reason the chapters and verse numbers go so high is because the longest book in the Bible is 150 chapters, and the longest chapter is 176 verses. I had to give those choices to make it work. BUT... I am trying to figure out how to add a text box so they can just type in the verse they want. It's a scary thing for me! LOL I get stuck on the MySQL thing in the first step! lol

8 - The clocks DO come with the mechanisms. They come complete, including battery to run them. But, this goes back to the pictures - I need to get better pictures with finished ones!

Re. the mechanisms, I think that you should state that each clock comes with a mechanism. You state that the battery is included which implies that there is a mechanism. You could easily expand that to say that the mechanism and battery are both included. Your photos should then be fine as they are.

 

If you look through some of the sites in this forum, they are criticized when they don't display payment methods on the home page. And, this does make sense. A visitor would clearly see whether he or she would be able to use the payment method that you offer.

 

I don't use a Purchase without Account contribution on my site. But, I sell expensive, low margin stuff and I don't want to take any chances. I think that if you made it easy for someone to buy something, by requesting minimal information, then they are more likely to do it. If you search for Purchase without Account in the Contribs area, you will find it. It does seem like it might difficult to implement, so maybe another poster could provide some first hand advice.

 

I don't know about shipping either. I think that your idea of providing free shipping over 100.00 is good. And, your prices seem to be so low that I don't think that someone would mind paying 6.50 for shipping. Previously, I was trying to say that 6.05 is so close to 5.99, that it should be changed to 5.99 because it sounds a lot cheaper.

 

Re. the fixed width site, Vger has a very simple, but great contrib: Fixed Width Site with CSS that takes no time to implement. You might want to look at that.
