Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Hi, Just installed OsCommerce and noticed there was a user in my customer list named John Doe from Never Never, Ca with the email address root@localhost. Apparently he works for a company called ACME Inc. as well.. Is this some sort of security breach or just a person messing around? Does OsCommerce come installed with a user named John Doe? I think I am going to run the sql again.. But will not if I do not have to.. Thanks for any insight..

AlanR Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 One of the first things I do when we're asked to troubleshoot a site is try to log in as root@localhost password: password. It's a useful thing and does no harm. Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)

I never even though of that user sitll being in the system (I've been signing up accounts at every site LOL) I guess I just assumed that since I removed it within the firest 2 minutes of install that everyone else does to. But then again, people don't secure their admin's either... go figure. My Contributions Henry Smith
John Doe Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Does OsCommerce come installed with a user named John Doe? You won't have to worry about it for much longer, I am getting kicked to the curb in MS3. Don't worry about me though, my Mom said I can move into her basement. :'( I will certainly miss all of you, it's been a great time.

LOL, but I guess we can always make it a contribution add-on for MS3

John Doe Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 So you're the Uncle that the family keeps insisting doesn't exist :) Kick a guy when he is down, thanks Custodian, . :( I guess we can always make it a contribution add-on for MS3 That would be great, it would give me the oportunity to continue working on the "OsCommerce Home Shopping Network" that I have been trying to get off the ground.
