Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Hey, I've installed the Order IP Recorder contrib on my test site and all worked well it grabbed and stored the correct IP address so I installed it on my proper site. The IP grabbed on this site is different from the one grabbed on the test site  I went back and placed an order on both within minutes of each other and they both came back with the same different IP's they had before. Why would this be happening? Both sites are hosted by the same company, I'm using cable so my IP addy hasn't changed. Any ideas?? Thanks
jon_l Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Strange. Have you checked the two different ip addresses to see what they are? There is some free utilities at dnsstuff.com that will tell you. Are the ip addresses similar or totally different? Jon.
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 The IP addresses are very different - one is 86.16.***.*** the other 62.252.***.*** If I type the 86.16 one into IE then I end up at my router setup panel (this is not the IP I normally type to access this panel). Using the DNSStuff lookup the 62.252 one shows the city I am in but the other one comes back unknown. If I go to http://www.lawrencegoetz.com/programs/ipinfo/ it displays the 62.252 one but with different last 3 numbers, so I think this is the correct one. It is weird that it is happening after using identical code and then the same computer to access each site. Any ideas?
jon_l Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Which one comes back for which website? Does the 86.* come back on the test site, and 62.* on the prod site? Or the other way round? It sounds like the 62.* one is your isp provider, this can change though will normally look similar as they will have a pool of ip addresses which are allocated dynamically. So if you disconnect, when you reconnect it is likely to be different - unless you have a static ip address from them. Check what the 86.* address is. I'd imagine its either the ip address of one of your domains or the server you are hosted on. I'd imagine its just something to do with the way your domains are configured on the server. Jon.
Guest Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks for the reply, The 86.* one comes back on the main site and the 62.* comes back on the test site. Using the site http://www.showmyip.com/gb/ I think the 62.* one is my proxy IP Address. On my router settings the Wan IP is the 86.* one so I believe this is the one assigned by my ISP. I'll talk to my host and see if the sites have been configured differently.
