My web-server installed my osCommerce for me last week and I didn't have time until yesterday to work on it.. but I have worked the last couple of days to get something up and running.. of course there is more to do but I think I have it useable except that I need to get the weights for the products so the UPS shipping will calculate.

I need feedback.

I will send you to the original site and you can click into the catalog because it all goes together.

http://www.piperrusticfurniture.com

There are several places on the page to click into the osCommerce pages..

I do have a couple of other things I need to figure out.. like how to get the copyright notice to have Piper Rustic Furniture powered by osCommerce instead of the default.

Any suggestions welcome..

ps.. I am a total newbie with the php stuff.. I know html and am gradually getting better at css.. so this was a challenge figuring out where to make the changes I wanted... why does it have to be so complicated?

Pretty good for a few days work but why don't you work your way through the list of dos and don'ts and then come back for more complete feedback.

Main Site:

  • Kill that scroll. It's too slow for readability, and if it's your slogan, it really should be with/on your main image.

  • Center! Center your image, center your middle table.

  • The little 'recycling' logo with the tree trunks isn't very crisp, and it doesnt seem to really represent anything. It doesnt' link anywhere. There's no text on or around it. Your company name is in the hover, but how many people are going to mouse hover to find that out?

  • In fact . . . the information on this main page could easily be incorporated into your osCommerce catalog page. That would save the user from hunting down your 'Catalog' links.

Catalog:

I'm sure you'll work your way through the contributions like everyone has to when they're starting out (like I'm doing now :) ), so maybe now isn't the best time to give you a good critiquing. I can say this . . . COLORS! Pick a reasonable scheme and stick with it. The gradient background, the gray box titlebars, the green, the tan. It's just too much. When I think wooden furniture, I think woodsy kinda browns. Earthy tones. THAT'S what you should be concentrating on. Once you've got a color scheme, you can work on replacing the stock osC buttons. You can also replace the 'rounded' infobox buttons (categories and shopping cart) with square ones.

  • Images. Standardize on an image thumbnail size. Yours being different makes your 'new products' infobox look out of wack. Or maybe that's something else.

  • If you're only using a single language, there's no need for a languages box.

  • If you're only accepting one currency, there's no need for a currencies box.

  • If you're the only manufacturer, there's no need for a manufacturer box.

  • One Piper Rustic Furniture logo per page is fine.

  • Your manufacturers image is so large that it distorts the right column. You'll need to create a new image that fits nicely into the infobox without it autoresizing.

  • Shipping and Returns, Privacy Notice, Conditions of Use. All of those things need to be filled out.

  • Remove the 'requests since' counter at the bottom.

Ok, I think that's all for now. You have some work to do, but you appear willing.

Good luck to ya :)

Wow, you are off to a great start.

I know you just began, so I'll give you a few weeks to work on the site before I start spouting off the basics, since you'll more than likely work on them soon anyhow.

Since you have a normal site for the index page, how about adding pages to your site that compliments your products - such as: tips on environmental recycling, a page on the types of trees you have used for your products (detailed infor about each), etc etc. This way, it looks like you're doing more than just selling, but also giving out information that will make "natural" more inviting to your customers.

I can't wait to see the finished product!
