rommany Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Evening all, I have a online store that is taking off in the uk, im have hundreds of top 10 keywords with msn and yahoo in the uk and i'm hoping google will follow suit one day, but my european and usa sales are still low. So would it be worth opening a .com and .eu store selling the same products that i do now. Im no expert at all of this but what i have read is that a .com site is more so for the states and the same should go for the .eu when they take off, so if i have them both i will be opening up my market. The only problem i see with this is the shipping prices would be higher. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards
open11 Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 hey david, just so much.. if u decide to use a .com domain, be sure, that the server is located in th us... google pretty likes and honours that <_< regards boris
♥peterpil19 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Guys, .com is by no means reserved for the US. It stands for "commercial". It's a common misconception. US actually has its own extension of .us Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense for Australia's domain extension to be .com.au, because that would be like saying .USA.Australia. --Peter CE PHOENIX SUPPORTER Support the Project, go PRO and get access to certified add ons Full-time I am a C-suite executive of a large retail company in Australia. jon_l Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Personally I think that if you're selling primarily to the UK or selling a product associated with the UK then a .co.uk domain is the best to have. If you want to look more global then a .com is better. I use a .co.uk domain for my main business, the .com wasn't available but even if it was I'd of just had it re-directing to the .co.uk domain for the reason above. Its always worth getting the .com domain if you can, even just for re-directs. Jon.
♥peterpil19 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 It's always worth getting the .com as well as your countries domain (in your case .co.uk) because .com is by far the most popular. People always remember .com before anything else. This probably won't be as relevant in the future but for now .com is king, unfortunately.. --Peter CE PHOENIX SUPPORTER Support the Project, go PRO and get access to certified add ons Full-time I am a C-suite executive of a large retail company in Australia.
