sparkle1980 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Hi I am a complete novice when it comes to web design but after a month of little sleep and lots of hair pulling my site is 99% complete. i am aware that there are a couple of issues still to resolve such as getting a SSL certificate when funds allow (although payment can be made securely via nochex site.) I Also need to look at image quality as although I have used the automatic thumbnail contribution I must be doing something wrong as pictures look really clear when enlarged but thumbnails look quite distotred in some cases. Have a lot more products to add but any opinions/suggestions/feedback at this stage or tips re image problem would be very much appreciated. Thanks Donna. www.eldondesigns.co.uk

Thanks Donna. www.eldondesigns.co.uk I'm usually not partial to those inro pages. For me the colour scheme is a bit washed out. Your header seems to have a lot of wasted real estate. If you made that lill smaller the content of the site could move up a bit. I noticed you have not installed a meta tags contribution. This is important if you want any hits from search engines. I recommend "Header Tags Controller" though I know others will tell you to use "Dynamic Tags" (quite wrongly though) For a great discussion of these two contributions check out: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=12&t=200484 Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?
ozcsys Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 You might want to post HERE instead as there is a section specifically for new store feedback... The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
spax Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I agree with ddp about the splash page, not a lover of those either. Also about the header image, it is quite big and being as you haven't done anything artistic with the text, I would have styled <h1> and <h2> tags to do the same thing. The pastel colour scheme, reflects what your business is, so that is ok. Although I would have toned down the breadcrumb nav bar a bit, to keep with the rest. All in all though, a very good first website. Well done!
