Guest Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I am switching web hosting companies, and they told me while they are transferring my SSL cert I will not be able to use it for about 24 hours. That means that my customers can?t check out over a secure connection. I am hoping that there is a way around this (other then having them call me!). Can I just buy a second cert and have them install the new cert then migrate over, then deactivate the first one? TIA, Mari
♥Vger Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 For the duration of the transfer edit both configure.php files and set enable_ssl to false. Vger

It can only work on one for one domain but it makes no difference where that domain is hosted. I think probably what they meant is that when you switch your nameservers, your site might not be availalbe for that amount of time. Hopefully, they have blocked your old site or are using remote access for the database, otherwise, you stand a chance of losing customer data and/or orders. Jack Thanks for the info. Is there an article somewhere where I can read about how to migrate OSCommerce smoothly?
Jack_mcs Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I an not aware of an article but the procedure has been covered many times here in the forums. Finding those threads may prove difficult though. You might try searching for "move shop." The main point to keep in mind is that the time to re-point the domain name can take up to 72 hours. While that is happening, if you get an order on your old site and the domain switches, then get an order on your new site, you will have a corrupted database. So you need to block the old site until the move happens. Your host should do this for you. If they don't, I would question moving to them. If you have to do it youself, place an html page in your root directory (it can say anything you like, like down for maintenance) and rename the includes directory to something else. That will protect you against data loss.
