lindy Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I am trying to control the order in which the available options per product are displayed on the product info pages. With help I got the options to list in the order I entered the options into the attributes section. Now I realize that I left out an option when I entered them. Is there any way to change the Option ID numbers that are already listed so that I can insert an option into the middle of the list? If I just add a new option, it automatically goes to the bottom of the list, and therefore will be listed as the last option available. Any ideas? Thanks, Linda
kgt Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 There would be a way to do this, but why not use one of the contributions that lets you sort attributes? Sometimes it's hard for newbies to know which contributions actually will help specific problems when you don't know much about the subject. I used the Sort Option Values Module, and, you're right, that seems like it will be much better in the long run for controlling specific attribute listings. However, I also want to control order for the actual options themselves. Example: the module helps make sure the individual size choices are always listed in order, but I also want to make sure that, on the product page, size is always the second choice offered - after the choices for colour. Is there a way to do this, as well?
lindy Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 RE: I used the Sort Option Values Module This worked great on editing the attributes already entered, but when I tried to enter new ones, it didn't recognize anything I entered. The field shows up as empty or has a totally random thing chosen - nothing like what I actually chose. Ideas? Linda

lindy Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 Oops. what I actually used was: Product Attributes Sort Order v1.0 not Sort Option Values Module I'm obviously losing it: I used Product Attributes Sort Order v1.2 I'll get it right one of these days. Anyway, anyone able to help for why I can't assign any new attributes to products? A very confused Linda
lindy Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 There would be a way to do this, but why not use one of the contributions that lets you sort attributes? I think it will make your life easier in the long run... http://www.oscommerce.com/community?contri...rt&category=all OK. I used the Products Attributes Sort Order v1.2 to add a line into the products attributes section where sort orders could be defined for each attribute. As instructed, I added the new sort field into the sql; updated bits of the product_info and admin/includes/functions/general.php files; and replaced my existing admin/products_attributes.php with the one included in the contribution. Things went well with all attributes that were already entered. The change put the new fields in and added a 0 to the sort order for each attribute. I then updated the 0 to the values I wanted. Worked a charm. The values on the product pages were listed exactly in the order I had assigned. Then I tried to add attributes to other products. I went through the same process as yesterday for adding attributes, and all seemed to be going as planned. However, when I checked the product pages, none of the new attributes were listed. When I looked back at the attributes page, all of the new attribute ID numbers were listed, but there was either no data in the fields or there was a choice I knew I did not choose. Any ideas as to why new data is not being stored correctly? Obviously something went wrong with the installation, but which part? Should I just undo everything I did, or is there a good place to start to try to fix it? I'm so over my head with this. Would you mind giving me some guidance? Thank you, Linda
