Questions to subdomains

Hello,

Perhaps you can help me with my questions:

My nephew wants to extend his product portfolio to sell besides gifts and chandeliers also shoes. So shoes are REALLY very different to the other mentioned. I am now thinking about changing the existing domain structure from www.domain.com to www.gifts.domain.com and www.shoes.domain.com.

So the questions are:

- When you use ONLY different product content on those subdomains and all the other information is the same does Google see this as duplicates and give me a page rank of zero?

- Can I use for those subdomains the same database?

- Would it be better to get an additional domain for the shoes and link from there to www.domain.com? But then again would Google see it as duplicate?

A lot of questions. But perhaps someone has an answer.

Thanks in advance for it.

Pagerank has nothing to do with anything you're talking about. Most search engines see subdomains as completely seperate sites if not all. If you have a whole new slew of product then no use another database. And finally yes it would probably be better to have a seperate domain and use subdomains like the one here for forums/directories/blogs/etc. related to the main site.
