Inconsistent "out of stock" messages on some items only

I am getting the "out of stock message" on just a few of my products even though:

• There's plenty of stock for all attributes
  

• Stock tracking is on for all options
  

There is no common option type or attribute involved. It seems to occur when we have a combination of our options "Color" and one of a few "Size" options working together. But it is not consistent in that there are quotation marks in some listings that get the message and in those that don't. Same with parentheses. I just don't know what else to look at.

 

Does anyone have an idea where to start with this issue? What sorts of things might cause such problems?
