Ladydeb Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Thanks for your help you guys! But its too difficult for me to figure out. I'm just giving myself a headache of monumental proportions! I don't even know if I needed to have my site up and running first, or if I needed to download the osCommerce stuff first. I don't have a clue where to start and so I'm gonna give up. I've been chasing my tail for months now, trying to design and sort out my own web site. Thought I'd hit bullseye when I came across the osCommerce system, but if you're a complete novice like me, its far too technical. So, thanks for all your suggestions in my earlier post. But I'm gonna slink off now with my tail between my legs and admit defeat. Its depressing.... I just think I'm not cut out for puter complexities. Take care and good luck with your adventures! Debs X :(

I have got alot of support from the guys here. Sometimes you don't get an answer to a question, which is frustrating, but keep trying. Someone will help & although some of it is more difficult, alot of it is relatively easy. Good luck whatever you decide. Julie
Ladydeb Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Thankyou Julie, Its less embarassing to hear that its not only me that finds this whole thing so frustrating! I am usually so determined to find a way round things, but this has got me beat! Never thought I'd hear myself say that, but its unfortunately true. Maybe if I forgot about it for a while, I might be able to come back to it with a fresh perspective? Thanks for your support anyway, its much appreciated! Kind regards Debs
spax Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 That's not the Bulldog Spirit! We're English, we don't Give Up! ;) When you have your OSC app downloaded, BAM!!!, there's a store. All you need to do is fill it with what you want to sell. What are you having difficulties with? We will try to help! Get angry and beat this thing!
rabbitseffort Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I will offer any advice I can--when I first looked at osc I was overwhelmed and intimidated too, and still can be sometimes, but it really isnt too hard if all you want to do is set up a basic shop. Don't give up--we are here to help! I can help walk you thru stuff via instant messenger too if you like! Have a great day! "I must admit that I personally measure success in terms of the contributions an individual makes to her or his fellow human beings." ---Margaret Mead--- "The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer. --Ken Kesey"
Ladydeb Posted March 22, 2006 Author Posted March 22, 2006  Hey, you guys are awesome! I am blushing with embarassment at my lack of spirit!!! BUT, please understand how long I've been struggling with the web site thing. Its been months and I'd still nothing to show for it. I was given some bad advice to use Microsoft Publisher to build a site. I spent weeks and weeks doing this, only to be told that Publisher was pants for web site building. I have an almost completed site which is no use.....VERY frustrating! So, I then set about looking for a better system. I found Macromedia TOO stressful..too much technical knowledge needed to get a good result. Even tried Photoshop, which is a GREAT programme, but my SpongeBob Squarepants BRAIN just couldn't figure it out fast enough. Like pulling teeth with a spaghetti tong! Here's where I have to admit the terrible truth  I have now found a template company on the net and bought a pre-designed template. I could CRY, especially since all you guys have now been so kind and offered so much help. But I didn't know what else to do. I feel like a total cop out..... :( I've no doubt I'm probably still gonna be having problems with the templated site once its up and running and if its ok, would it still be alright to post here with my ramblings??? The template has the osCommerce system integrated - which is why I went for that particular one. Take care and I hope I will not be thought of as being too much of a spiritless wonder!! Debs X
adam777 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Basic intallation with "fantastico" on most control panels then go from there, otherwise check out "getafreelancer.com" & "scriptlance.com" & outsouce your web stuff. It will work out cheaper when you take your own time into consideration. VERY CHEAP!!! I just want to learn for myself.
