dauerc Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Months have gone by with me working diligently to get this website to where I want it. Numerous public contributions, my own adjustments, and more. It still has a long ways to go before I am done with it, including major changes to the look and feel. With that said, we are live and working hard to get some real business. I went with sales for 4 days straight, and was excited we were off to a good start, when everything went quiet. Its not traffic, as every day is showing more traffic than the one before. I started last week with an average of 200 unique visitors per day (information from Webalizer) and this week is starting with close to 500 unique visitors per day (A pretty good jump in a week). So with that said, I am now turning the people who have helped make this store a reality, which is the OS Commerce group. All of my hard word wouldnt be what it is without all of the help offered here. So here it is, I have run out of people to beat me up, and tell me what should be better, but I know there is a lot I could still be doing to improve the site, please take a look and give me your ideas. I have not gone to the module to purchase without account yet as the instructions are to confusing for me, the site is modified beyond the scope of the install document to help me. I may have to install to a totally clean shopping cart, and then figure it out from there. The website is: http://www.midmichiganmusic.com/ and although I am looking for ideas on the entire web site, one thing I am working on currently is the integration of the x-sell module, so a good page to see what I am doing with this is at: http://www.midmichiganmusic.com/product_in...roducts_id=7596 I dont like the box style, but havent found a way to change it yet. Anyhow, please beat me up a little on this, and give me lots more work to do, and if you like something, let me know as well. Thanks to everyone for all your help and hard work!!!!!!!!! swtnhpy Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 One thing right off the bat is your site is VERY VERY slow to load. I am on T1 and it takes at least 30 seconds to load the entire front page. I would work on that a bit and optimize your graphics. Your colors you have going at the top do not match up with your stylesheet colors in your boxes. The bright green looks totally out of place. Your tabs at the top for your categories are really hard to read.
dauerc Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 I was a little winded above, but appreciate the comments. I will be out of the office the next two days because of a family emergency, but where I have time, I will start playing with other color combinations and see what I can come up with. I will also start working on the speed issue, this is the one I am more concerned with. I greatly appreciate the comments, its easy to have people tell me how great it is, its really hard to get good constructive feedback. Thank You!!!! Chris
chooch Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Without a doubt a lot of hardwork has gone in to this but it needs alittle more attention. You must sort out the add to cart, review and wishlist buttons on the product info pages because they are desperate need of change to suit your sites colours and they need aligning too. The same goes for them in the header... you must make a more colour friendly logo banner so that it is not disimilar from the layout of the site and you should add fixed width to it. Your trump card is the header tab navigation, keep thinking of ways to complement that side of your site. Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back! Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you? There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere. CHOOCH
