Hi friends,

I am very new for osCommerce, MySQL and PHP. I am working on it first time.

I am testing osc on my local computer which is Windows Xp as OS. I have WAMP5 as server, My SQL and PHP5.

I have extracted osc and pasted it to the www folder of wamp5. I managed to get the Installation page also. But now when i am going to install it, i am being asked for the database details. I am giving localhost as host, but dont knowanything after that. Do i need to create database first and then should do the Installation? If so I have already created the blank database 'shopdb' through myPhpAdmin but it also not working.

Can anyone guide me for this?

I know may be it shold be a silly question but I have just started work on it.

Pls guys help me out it will be very helpful to me.

Thanks in Advance,

take care

Hi, I just went through what you are saying a few days ago. I found a VERY GOOD tutorial on how to set it on your PC here , it worked for me; the only catch is that it is in Spanish >_< but I guess by looking at the pictures you can figure it out, just click on the brown thing with a green arrow next to "4 Oct 2005" at the right bottom of the page. I hope it helps somehow!

Hi Kevin,

Thank for the link. It looks fine and understand a little bit but I am still not understanding it fully.

It could be so helpful if it was in English. However Its better to ask a few questions.

I just wanted to know that how can I configure my database? Do I need to create one or osc has it itself.

If I understand the above tutorial, OSC comes with database it self and user just need to import that db properly. Isn't it?

I have copied the full catelog folder to my root directory. And getting the Installation page on localhost.

If I need to create database than I have already created one blank db with help of phpMyAdmin.

Do I need to create user & password for my database? How can i give the permission 775/777 to cat/admin/configure.php?

Please guide me for that.

thank you,

I'll try to help but I'm quite new at this stuff to:

You need to create a database for sure. You just need to create it and then osc will use it.

Osc does not come with a database, the user has to create one and then tell osc where is at so osc can use it.

The permissions are to be set when you work with a server only (i think!). When you do that you'll have to use a FTP program like filezilla to move the files from your computer to the server, once the files are in the server just right click on them and set the permissions.

I hope it helps!
