NBEP Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Hi, I am getting the following warning message on my home page: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/nbepubli/public_html/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. If anyone could give advise on setting the right user permissions I would be very grateful, as I have spent the last 3 hours trying to figure this out. Thank you in advance.

Is this on a live or test environment? You need to change the permissions on this file or it allows another person to change it - as this is the configuration file, you are basically wide open to allow anyone to change your information. I don't recall what the permissions should be set to, but you can change themn with your FTP software (most of the time) or by using a command to CHMOD to whatever the permissions should be. Hand made jewellery and tiaras on our website Please bear with me. Im an osC noobie!

Use your ftp program to change the permissions on the configure files to 644 if it still complains about that setting change them to 444. Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?
NBEP Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Use your ftp program to change the permissions on the configure files to 644 if it still complains about that setting change them to 444. I tried going into my ftp program to change the permissions but I cannot find the configure file??? I went into the file public_html and the includes file and into the Admin file (and changed the permissions to 644 but it didn't make any difference the warning message is still on my home page) but I cannot see a configure file anywhere. (I am completely new to the web and I don't really know what I am doing) PLEASE HELP! I also went into my control panel where my website is being hosted and I can't find a configure file.
