BenCollver Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Currently, when a customer changes the contact information in their account, it does not change that customer's orders. Is there a good way to make oscommerce change the contact information in all the customer's orders?
Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 No, and for a very good reason. Say I placed an order today, paid by credit card then move house on Friday. I update my address on your site. You despatch my goods on next Wednesday and go to process the credit card, only the credit card company may well want my address details. If the order shows my new address, chances are the payment will be refused. As it shows my old address details, everything works fine. If you are worried about goods being sent to the wrong address, amend the wording in checkout_shipping.php to reflect how long delivery may take and to ensure th customer puts a correct address for delivery. Also, for tax purposes what you are suggesting could be problematic - say I order lots of things from you over the course of 5 years, then change address. All orders would show my new address, which would then not tie up with the tax office records. This could lead to full audit of your records, or mine, or even worse both - a lot of hassle you could well do without.
BenCollver Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 I should have been more clear. I do not want it to change the billing address, just the shipping address. I am not concerned about taxes. There is no sales tax here. If I make this change myself, I will record the details of the address change as a comment in the order history. I would want it to be optional, because frequently folks do place orders and have them shipped as gifts to family and friends.
Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 This is already an option when people place their orders; they can add up to 5 extra addresses to their address book (you can increase this if you like through admin). If people want to change their addresses at a later date, the simplest way is for you to put something in the order confirmation email asking them to send you the new details, then you add order editor contrib to admin and update it that way.
BenCollver Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Thank you for the advice, it is much appreciated.
