Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 ever run into this? i've been noticing an increase in customers clicking off the moment you ask them for their address. i've even tried renaming "create_account.php" to something else - same result i even added a line explaining that the address is used to print the packing slip and whatnot - no difference. how do they expect to receive their purchase unless they enter their shipping address? (for reference, yes i have fast easy checkout and have a very minimal checkout page, creating an account is clearly optional)
Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I think people know they have to enter their address to be able to get the goods. I would be looking at something else such as if they have to enter the address before they know how much it is going to cost or something else. It might be just that entering the address is too much work to find out if they want to continue. Maybe adding the missing info to the address page will help. Go through your checkout process and see what they know and what they don't know when they get to that page and make your adjustments.

If not install one of them..it might give you a lower drop of rate at the create account stage... Guest Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 i don't have a ship in cart, but i have a shipping chart page that is linked right beneath "contact us" on every single page (column_left.php)... but i do receive "how much is shipping" emails from time to time.. the link is labeled very clearly "SHIPPING & returns" is this maybe too much work for them to see the shipping rates?

Try to add estimated shipping incl. the side box...ie. when someone adds something to their cart a new box with the estimated shipping cost will appear in your choice of the left or right column.... That should reduce the number of emails about shipping aswell as reduce the number of people leaving at the create account/address stage..... A lot of shoppers want to know the exact cost of their order before commiting to anything , but if it involves giving away their address and personal info before getting this info some will bail out. On the other hand those who bail out are most likly just curious anyway , and would probably not have completed any purchase anyway....... Those who do take the time to register to check the cost , might then just bail out at the checkout shipping page instead... The advantage of showing such customers the shipping costs up front is that if they decide to leave they will not do so in your create account or checkout shipping stages...... This will most likly reduces the number of people who leave at the 2 mentioned sections and as such give you a higer rate of completet vs abandoned orders/sign ups. Its worth a try anyway.... It is actually exactly the same because it uses your existing active shipping modules to calculate the estimated shipping based on country or zip.
