OScommerce on server without e-mail

Hi

I have my oscommerce store on a free hosting server that does not support e-mail to be sent. Sending e-mails are disabled. Is there any way to work around that? If you know of a way, please give me a detailed description, since I am a newbie.

Thanks a lot

Forget it, get a decent host. Hosting is so cheap these days, so it makes no sense to go with a free hosting company and put up with all of their restrictions.

I agree Vger, but the point is that my "ordinary" business webpages are with a hosting company with who we have a one year agreement. The problem there is that they run a windows server, without Mysql and where I can not change the permissions on the files. If I got them to change the settings so I could change the permissions, it would not be a problem, since there are a lot of free Mysql hosts out there, where the database could reside.

Thx

Okay - so you need an explanation of why you'd be wasting your time.

osCommerce uses mail in two ways - the first one uses the native mail function in php, and the second one needs an outgoing mail server which is based on the domain you are using. Most ISP's ban mail being 'relayed' through their mail servers from somewhere else, and even if it does go through an ISP who allows relaying it will most likely get blocked by incoming mails ervers, because 'relayed' mail is most often spam mail.

Actually, I'd settle for the "wasting my time", but I appreciate the explanation. But it will work with an "external" database? I guess I have to ask my hosting company to change server setup, so I can change permissions at least.

I am thankful for all the help I can get.

I agree with Vger--change hosts--you can get a great host for $7 a month almost anywhere these days--with no restrictions, awesome includes and real support--just my 2 cents!

"The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.

But it will work with an "external" database?

No, it won't. You'd have to get your hosting company (where you have the database) to set up your domain as a Remote User, and this would mean that your domain would have to have its own dedicated ip address. They wouldn't allow a shared ip address to have access as a Remote User.
