seanjohnson Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 My site, www.RatRage.com, has been live since late 2005. This is a bumper sticker sales web site. This is my first osCommerce shop. Please let me know your thoughts. RatRage Bumper Stickers Thanks in advance for your opinions. Sean Johnson ----------------- Sean Johnson
seanjohnson Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 I guess it is probably no surprise , but I haven't had much luck getting my site listed in dmoz.org as of yet. If anyone sees anything obvious why the site would be excluded, please let me know. Any general feedback on the web site? Thanks, Sean ----------------- Sean Johnson
Guest Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Hi Sean, Sorry, I meant to reply ages ago. I love your site - great products, with a lot of PR milage as well. Ratrage - "Don't suffer in silence!!!" IM(very)HO I don't like the front page (being straight is always best eh?) I think it's too text heavy and spends too much slamming the competition (albeit your making some fair points!). Perhaps a simple bullet point list - listing out the advantages and USP's - e.g. Quality Die Cut Stickers U.V. Resistant - they won't fade OVERSIZED - so everyone can see them etc etc etc etc ... I think the one thing missing from the site, is a picture of a car with one of your stickers - would make a cool front page feature if you find an unusual car ..... Have you thought about some community involvement - e.g. send us a picture of your car with our stickers etc etc etc.... Just a couple of thoughts HTH Best of luck, BrianD

Perhaps a simple bullet point list - listing out the advantages and USP's... Great feedback, thank you. I have actually been meaning to revamp the index page. I agree that it is way too text heavy. Most people won't bother reading that much text. I will work on changing this when I get some time. I think the one thing missing from the site, is a picture of a car with one of your stickers - would make a cool front page feature if you find an unusual car ..... We actually have some pictures from customers (only one posted so far). Here is a link to the photos page (the page is listed in the Information box): RatTracks Have you thought about some community involvement - e.g. send us a picture of your car with our stickers etc etc etc.... Just a couple of thoughts HTH Best of luck, BrianD Yes, on that same page, we are offering a free bumper sticker if a usuable picture is sent to us. Thanks for the feedback, Brian. Much appreciated. Guest Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I noticed your "submit your picture" feature after I posted (Doh!) I really think you can go far with this - best of luck. (my sister lives in CT - might order her a couple :P ) BrianD
skylla Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Very nice! Great, you can make one yourselves! So, I could find the W for president, but where's the F for president? ;-)
skylla Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Just had another look, and I can't really fault it. I do think though that the enlarge picture is a bit over the top, but, hey if you can handle the bandwidth req it's fine. Watch out though for review abuse! You might want to install a contribution which allows you to approve reviews first before them being posted. I happened to spot a couple of off-topic reviews... Also, showing random product pictures/texts (in flash?) would suit your site very well. Re listing, a shame that ultimate SEO URLs would not really work for your site... or would it? Again, very impressed. Good luck. EDIT: BTW, you have to strip slashes from your maintext.

Review abuse: I watch them pretty closely (I have it email me when new reviews are added) Random pictures: I have been planning to add that, thanks! SEO URLs: I have been planning to do this, but just haven't had the time. I think it is possible and would help me with search engine results. Strip slashes: Thanks for pointing that out, I fixed it. Thanks for the great feedback. I really think you can go far with this - best of luck. (my sister lives in CT - might order her a couple :P ) BrianD Thanks again! Order away! :D Sean ----------------- Sean Johnson
chooch Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Good concept but needs attention. The buttons don't flatter the site so maybe they could change but keep the roll-over effect if you want. The stylesheet could brighten up the site a little, maybe you could experiment with that? Good to see another fixed width site with background :-) Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back! Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you? There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere. CHOOCH
