lindy Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I'm using Dreamweaver, and I'm getting error messages regarding permissions. The instructions say I need to right-click on the problem files and that there will be a chmod option, but there isn't one. The problem files when right-clicked do come up with an option to Turn Off Read Only, but nothing happens when I click this. Can anyone help me change permissions with Dreamweaver? I had no idea set up would be this hard!! Thanks. Linda
♥Vger Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Don't use Dreamweaver to upload and manage files. Dreamweaver has an unstable FTP client. Use a real FTP programme like WS FTP Home (30 day trial version - after that it's paid) or FileZilla. I haven't had reports of anyone having problems with either of those programmes. One other thing to point out - if your website is hosted on a Windows server then you won't be able to change file permissions via FTP anyway. If your site's on a Windows server then go to your web hosting control panel and look for a link called 'File Manager' and use that feature to change file permissions. Vger

Using the file manager in control panel worked. Sure wish I had asked you hours ago! Thanks for being so quick, too! Watch out though, cause I might be back with more problems since you helped so well this time ;-) Linda
