Problem installing: Step 7

Hi all,

I am trying a new install of OSC and on step 7 I receive this error:

The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set.

Please perform the following actions:

cd /home/kydesi73/public_html/smashsupply/shop/catalog/includes/

touch configure.php

chmod 706 configure.php

cd /home/kydesi73/public_html/smashsupply/shop/catalog/admin/includes/

touch configure.php

chmod 706 configure.php

If chmod 706 does not work, please try chmod 777.

If you are running this installation procedure under a Microsoft Windows environment, try renaming the existing configuration file so a new file can be created.

I set the pemissions to 706 as directed and received the same error. I then tried 777 and still receiving the same error.

The server has PHP Safe Mode on if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help.

BTW: I am installing this within a folder on the domain

(example: www.mysite.com/shop) NOT (www.mysite.com)

Not sure if that matters.

If your hosts are running PHP in Safe Mode then it's a safe bet the server is Windows. If this is the case then trying to change file permissions via FTP will have no effect at all. Go to your web hosting control panel and use the 'File Manager' to change the permissions.

Thank you for the fast reply.

I just double checked and I am 100% the server is a Linux server.

Just to make positive I changed the permissions to one of the main dirs to 655 to make sure I received an error and I did, after setting the dir pemissions back to default the error was gone.

So this tells me that the permissions are taking effect, I have no idea why I am receiving this error.

I have installed OSC many times before and everything went great.

I hope you can help me out with this problem as this is a great program and I am truly happy using it.

Fixed

The problem was so basic I really don't want to even say what I did wrong but for the sake of future members who may have the same problem, I will just say this:

Make sure you are in the correct directory!

You're not the first one who's done that - so no need to beat yourself up over it.
