mattbrand Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Hey everyone, I am installing OS Commerce for the first time. I am doing so on a site that is going to process orders with paypal, and possibly a credit card service in the future. My questions are: 1. do I need to install SSL? 2. do i need to have SSL installed and have the checkbox for SSL checked at the time of installing OS Commerce, or can I install it now and set those settings later? Thanks!
♥Vger Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 You need ssl to protect customer data when they sign up with you on the Create Account page, or when they login on the login.php page, or when they edit their account details. You also need it for the peace of mind of your customers. Online fraud is growing at around 20% per year, and people are very wary of e-commerce sites which don't show the ssl padlock. Unless you have a full SSL cert installed before you install osCommerce then leave the check box for ssl in the Install process empty and edit the configure.php files later. Vger
