facelessface Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 If you go to my website: http://www.preciousmetal-online.co.uk You may notice that it is very slow in loading up any page (e.g. click the 'our cars' button at the top). Any ideas why? Or how to fix? my sites: ---------- www.preciousmetal-online.co.uk www.liparazzi.com www.yaoh.co.uk
Job Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 If you go to my website:http://www.preciousmetal-online.co.uk You may notice that it is very slow in loading up any page (e.g. click the 'our cars' button at the top). Any ideas why? Or how to fix? Checked in Firefox/javascriptconsole: error MMswapimage is not defined and MMswapimagerestore is not defined. Looks some javascript is missing. Perhaps here <!-- start get_javascript(applicationtop2header) //--> <!-- end get_javascript(applicationtop2header) //-->

Any ideas why? Or how to fix? If it's your server, add more ram (should have at least 1 Gb - 512 Minimum) Turn on caching I would check your web server error logs, I once has a php db query that was looping and filled up the logs to 100Gb - that sucked - it's a 120 Gb drive so when the HD filled up, services starting shutting down on me, like http, mail etc... good thing ssh didn't shut down or I would have needed to wait until the next day to get into the data center to fix it. BTW: I can't even get the page to load.. asking a few thousand people to check a slow server is only going to clow it down more... but then again I guess you had no alternative My Contributions Henry Smith
facelessface Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 I have tried removing all references to MM_imageRestore etc from the index page, and turning on caching, but to no avail. It is not on my own server it is on a commercial server. I set up a test page, not using osc and that loads instantly: here Any other ideas. This is the first OSC shop i have set up with more than a dozen products (it currently has (500+), could that have anything to do with it? custodian Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 No.. I have 3 times that many and about 5 times more to enter yet. Oh.. your test page doesn't load for me either. My Contributions Henry Smith
Guest Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 nothing to do with the server. The paths probably, the jscript paths as previously suggested not defined correctly and/or other paths perhaps with respect to the stylesheet.

Whoops sorry test page url is actually www.preciousmetal-online.co.uk/test.html The only reason i asked about the number of products was because it was working fine a couple of weeks ago. Since then i have made two minor changes to the database (added two new, unrelated tables). But I don't see how this would of affected it... my sites: ---------- www.preciousmetal-online.co.uk www.liparazzi.com www.yaoh.co.uk
facelessface Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 Solved it. The client has uploaded all images as 100Kb - 300Kb! So basically it was trying to download about 1.5MB of stuff on each page.. Will have to get him to resize all images then it should be working fine, thanks for the suggestions guys... my sites: ---------- www.preciousmetal-online.co.uk www.liparazzi.com www.yaoh.co.uk
