tastar Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Wow, what a great site! It looks like it has been around for a long time - well developed with a large product mix, nice photos and good descriptions. And, very clean and uncluttered. The design really matches the products that you sell, too. Some stuff that you might consider adding would be more information about who you are - if you have a large backlog of orders, then some information about your location, and a phone number would be expected. And, of course, having the payment information up-front so that people know what to expect without creating an account and then going to the point of checking out. And, I don't like the Retail Price thing, either. I don't like paying retail and would feel better if I thought that I was getting a better deal than retail. I believe that labeling prices as "Our Price" would be better than calling them Retail. In any case, very nice job. I'm still wondering how you pulled it off if you are member 97,xxx. Tony I downloaded your pop-up contrib, too. I haven't had time to look at it, but it works well on your site.
custodian Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 I took your advice with the wording of Retail. I had original listed it that way because of the whoelsale accounts... Pulling it off at a 97,xxx :) I take that as a great compliment - thank you. I've got the background in computer (23 years of Internet), previously owned an ISP and while I know only about 5% of PHP and MySQL, I'm quite the stubborn mule. Lots of 48 hour days, and no sleep. Lucky for me my wife and I compliment each other quite well. She has the women's touch and I have the computer background. The site was all her idea Anyway, I had originally done the entire shopping cart in Perl, lucky for me I created it in a modular type format so that all the perl scripting was imbedded in the center of the site - I was able to take the site and wrap it around the osCommerce code. and have a great starter template. Some minor css adjustments (I use three different css files, though when I get time I'v been merging them into one) I'm glad you like the site. I put it up for review since I've been giving advice to others and thought that I should at least put mine up as well - If I can dish it out I need to be able to take it too. Payment information - are you referring to visa, mastercard, discovery and american express logos? Contact information - that address is plugged into osCommerce in Store Address and Phone Configuration, the phoen number was removed for a short time as we are getting a new phone system and all calls are being routed through our home. Once that is in place the phone number will be added back to the contact page. Well tastar I'm please to have the feedback both Pros and Cons - I was getting worried when I saw 50 views and no one replied... make a man have crazy thoughts.. rm -f /* :) Ok, maybe not that extreme  Wow, what a great site! tmgrood Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Outstanding Site Henry. Very downhome looking which goes great with your products. You've got some nice things to sell. I may do a little shopping. Great Job! I'm a victim of circumstance

Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 The only things I saw were; 1) There is no address for you so I have no idea where you are located. Phone is good also. Make you seem more like a legit company and also helps me think about shipping costs before I have to sign up for an account before finding out what they are. 2) On your create account page you have "wholesale" customers but there is no indication on the site as to what a wholesale customer is or what benifit there is of becoming a wholesale customer. 3) 10 days to ship is a long time, I would try and shorten that if possible. 4) For you food items make sure you are compling with the FDA regulations. 5) Your google ads make me leave your site, it is better to get a sale rather than $0.05 from google. 6) You would do well to have Ultimate SEO URL's installed also. 7) Header should be clickable with alt and title tags. 8) See if you can change Home ? Gingerbread ? 3sd2538-u1S1 to Home ? Gingerbread ? 6-1/2" Gingerbread man ornies
♥bruyndoncx Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Just had a quick glance, first looks are good except for the google box. I found a few things: The button bar for product info is missing a top border http://www.memorylaneprimitives.com/produc...roducts_id=1400 Looks like a general layout issue as it also shows on http://www.memorylaneprimitives.com/reviews.php Also, showing optional related products with no product looks odd . KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support). So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?! Find the most frequent unique errors to fix: grep "PHP" php_error_log.txt | sed "s/^.* PHP/PHP/g" |grep "line" |sort | uniq -c | sort -r > counterrors.txt

Ok, I'm going to scrap the google box. Not sure what you are referring to with the product info button bar? Can you elborate - I don't see anything missing. (Though if you are referring to the entire column_right.php no showing up I was just mod'ing something and missed an ' so it vanished, but I fixed that right away) I also finally got rid of the Page Requests in the footer and replaced with a credit card bar. custodian Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 OH and the Related Products. That is a new contrib, we are still populating that, though we are keeping it very related products (eg: home spun table cloth - related product mathing homespun chair pads, runners, etc..) so that it's easy to find the entire set. Currently havign 1209 products it's difficult to relate the products with the way that the "Related Products" Ccontirb is set up. I was hoping for something slightly different but I'll need to live with it for anothr few weeks until I have the extra time to mod it slightly (like not showing the box if nothing is related...) skylla Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 quite liked your site at the time. Have you moved on since??
Guest Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Just read all of the positive comments on this site, and I was really curious, but it just times out if I try to view. Shame :(
tastar Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Wow, the site is back - the guy that did it really understands how to do ecommerce effectively (I followed some of his posts about promotional effectiveness, etc). It was a real disappointment to see someone who really knew what was going on go down. It's good to see that the site is live again - now if custodian updates the dated stuff on his homepage, we'll all know that he's back into full swing action!
CarolG Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Memory Lane Primitives is indeed a lovely website. HOWEVER, I placed an order on Sept. 13th and my credit card was charged on Sept. 15th. It is now Oct. 12th and I still don't have my order. Nobody answers the phone number given on the website. What's up? Is this a scam?
