AntiqueStoreBuilder Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 My wife decided to leave her job (in the advertising business) and to start an antiques/collectables business. I began working on this site in my off hours around November and have been plinking at it ever since. It's getting close to the time that we need to launch it (want to have it up and running for the Spring) and so I'm looking for "version 1" of feedback (i.e., I'll take any and all feedback and incorporate it into the site before it goes live). This is NOT a live site (i.e., you can complete a transaction if you want -> select "Cash on Delivery" as the payment option if you really want to try the end-to-end purchase process). But, even high-level comments on the look, feel, functionality, etc would be appreciated. Known Bugs include: Typos - those will be fixed and I know there are some in the product descriptions (my wife has been entering those) but anything glaring, please provide feedback. No SSL - I will add that at the end If you find a "product not found page", there is a SQL error - I've posted in the contrib forum hoping for assistance Certain items will be "too large" or "too heavy" to ship, according to CanadaPost - will fix that in their admin settings It will eventually reside in the "root" folder, so that there won't be a "home" link - this was done as I'm working on the live production server, and didn't want people coming in and purchasing product while we're still in development So, here it is - first time it's being viewed by anyone other than my wife and I: http://cottagepast.com/shop/ Thanks in advance, Mike
tastar Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Hi, A couple of quick observations: You need to work on your style sheets - your type looks pretty bad in IE 5 (some stuff is way too big) and FireFox 1.5 (product descriptions are so small they are almost unreadable). Recent History is way too large in IE and about right in FireFox. Both browsers are on a Mac. And, your category header images are broken as well as your category images. Otherwise, nice start. tony

Otherwise, nice start. tony Thanks Tony - I had messed around with the stylesheets - no question. Of course, I did the faux pas of having it look right on my screen forgetting what it might look on others (esp on other browsers and esp on the Mac!) will take a look at what some of the default stylesheets were and will try to revert to them, thanks. Oh, and appreciate the callout that some of the header images/category images are broken - that was also on my to do list, and somehow I forgot it... and having looked at the site for so long, I stopped even noticing! :o Appreciate the feedback so far! Cheers, Mike
mmier Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I like it; it would look much better if it weren?t so stock looking but for a first site its good. The only thing that bugged me was in your product titles and description and in other boxes such as the login page, and on your information pages all your text was italics. You only want to use that to bring attention to an item or word. It?s not generally used for complete descriptions. Good Luck with your store! ( My Store ) Miz --------------------- Contributions New Fields with Easy Populate Remove Category Images
muskokee Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 So, here it is - first time it's being viewed by anyone other than my wife and I:http://cottagepast.com/shop/ Thanks in advance, Mike Hi Mike, the site looks fine. I realize you are not done :) Neither am I!! Just one little pet peeve of mine.... please, please with suger on top DO NOT call the District of Muskoka "The Muskokas". There is just one Muskoka, made up of smaller towns and communities. I know this seems nitpicky but....it wouldn't sound right if someone called it "The Torontos" That really does sound funny! Best Sheri AKA Muskokee (get it? :-" )
Guest Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Hi Mike, Might I ask what contributions you have used? In particular the drop down category quick navigation box you have in the cat menu. I've been looking for one of those! :)
