MIKdUB Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Hello folks, I'm a web designer and recently a potential client asked not to only design a site but to set up an online store. I only do design, so web developement is out of my expertise. But i'm willing to give it a shot. I've read around and I've discovered some answers for some of my questions, but I still have some and I'm hoping some of you folks can help with get an answer. I'm sure they're no brainers, but I'm new to the e commerce scene, so please bare with me. Questions: How is an order procesed? Assuming everything is set up correctly such as setting up a payment module (like paypal or authorize.net) and the whole online store is set up, how will this work? Will my client recieve an email telling him/her that there was an order placed and to go ahead and process the order? So, in other words, if I were the client, once a customer purchases a product from my online store and of course all shipping and taxes are calculated, would I recieve an email basically telling me to grab that particular item from my physical store/storage/warehouse and fedex/usps/ups it myself to the client? Is that how it works? Or am I way off? Thanks in advance folks

HSMagic Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Pretty much, that's how it works. If you are a web designer (more familiar with notepad.exe and not WYSIWYG) then PHP's learning curve will come easily to you for customizing the site and installing contributions. I just read the above and I hope I don't come off sounding insulting. I just mean that PHP is a text environment and if you already know html text, you'll be cool.
MIKdUB Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 Great! thanks for the replies folks. HS, not insulting at all.......thanks again.
