cgmsys Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I've done some searching in the forms and can seem to find an answer . Is it possible to have the same item show up with different ways of categorizing the item ? In other words suppose I make a page for any particular widget. Would it be possible to have different means of categorizing widgets ? In other words by color or by size or by manufacturer. A user could come to the site and browse based on color , size or manufacturer. From what I've seen of OS commerce so far it seems to be more of a hierarchical structure that would not allow the same item with the same stock number to be in three separate categories . We would not want to have to maintain three separate instances and three variations of the stock number . I hope that makes sense . I would really appreciate any input or direction here . Thanks Chris
cgmsys Posted March 10, 2006 Author Posted March 10, 2006 I just wanted to clarify my post above a little bit more . I think maybe a more concrete example would help . Suppose you're selling batteries . Obviously you can group them by manufacturer. However it might be helpful to have a page somewhere with applications that would lead you to the correct battery . For example , a page on lawn tractors . On that page you might have a particular model of lawn tractor listed . When you click on that model it would then show you the various batteries that can be used in that model . As far as I know, OScommerce doesn't lend itself to easily to this . I have done something similar for someone with tires or they're manually creating pages for different vehicles and then providing links to tires and rims that would pertain to that particular vehicle . That is pretty labor intensive . I looked through the contributions a bit and found a couple that look like they might be promising . For example Multiple Categories per product quick entry http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...tegories/page,5 Multiple Categories http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...tegories/page,5 Does anyone have any experience with the contributions above or anything similar ? Another thought that I had was to try to list all the applications on each product page . However I think that we get pretty unwieldy as any one product could easily have hundreds of applications . It really appears that you have to reference from the application to the product . Thanks Chris
HSMagic Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I run a magic store.. so I want a DVD on card magic to be in the DVD category and also in the Card Tricks Category. Your choices when looking at a product in admin are Edit, Delete, Move, and Copy To. "Copy To" may be what you are looking for. Copy it as a link and your stock will remain managed in both categories but visible in both categories.
