I have had two customers that have been charged twice for their orders.

In both instances I only received one order email for the transaction.

When I checked with Moneris, my processor, there were two transactions registered both processed at the same time.

Since then other transactions have gone though but only charged once.

Any ideas how this could be happening?

Well this might happen when time out happens and client feels that his first payment was declined. So client pays for the second time.

Please check the interval at which paymet were made.

This can happen specially with WPP where a time out will make the code execute unsucessful payment where as the payment was completed at the gateway but before the ack reached the server the tome out code got executed.

Thanks for your reply.

The two transactions were time stamped with the same time 03:18.

Are you suggesting that the customer hit confirm payment twice?

They say that they did not do anything that seemed unusal.

ther is a thirty second or some similar time out that is set.

Now when the customer did punch it once they got payment denied as 30 sec were over before the reply from paypal reached your site.

Considering that the payment was rejected the client did hit the second time and this time again the paymentw as sent.

I suggest you to make correction so invoice number is sent.Paypal wil not accept payment for same invoive number twice this will take care of such issues getting repeated.

I'm not using paypall. I use Moneris.

I still don't understand why two invoices were not created.

From what I've been told the customer has clicked twice (by accident or habit). For example with 2co payments I have seen a warning they give by 'the' button that clicking twice will mean customers are billed twice. You might want to check that out and provide something similar.
