cakmon Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Sorry for the dumb question. I am really new at this. I want to alter the index.php (initial page in store) and when I go in to edit it through the admin tool. It says it can't edit the page. Change the permissions. Could someone possibly explain how to do that. I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I got this preloaded on my ipowerweb hosting account. Hoe do I make the store live. I assume you just add products and customize the php pages and then get a merchant account and start selling. IS there more to it? Thanks again. Peace in Heart, Chris

FTP the file onto your computer make a backup of the file in case you make mistakes. Then you can edit the file and FTP the file back up to the server. IF there are any problems with permissions then you can change them with most FTP programs. Hoe do I make the store live. I assume you just add products and customize the php pages and then get a merch ant account and start selling. IS there more to it? Thanks again. Peace in Heart, Chris Sounds like you have the basic right idea about how these things work. It can be quite a bit of work to do as you describe though. Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?
cakmon Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 Thanks. I think I got it. I was using fetch to change permissions but they weren't taking in oscommerce. So I will just download them and edit them in text editor. I really appreciate your quick post. This is such a cool thing to get involved in. Peace in Heart, Chris

Peace in Heart, Chris Checkout using Filezilla for your FTP program. You can edit your files while they are still on your server, no need to download, edit and then upload them. Just edit, save and it automatically updates the saved file to your server. Filezilla is FREE too!
