gonebored Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I just recently went live with this store, and I know its in need of some more but it needed to go live by the first of the month. I know its pretty much a stock version with a few changes, but I was focusing on making a functional store with the addon's I used. Any advice? Check it out here Thanks in advance.
gonebored Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 Nothing from anyone? There has to be something someone could point me in the right direction to improve on it.
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 What is *secure.omnis.com. Your SSL cert warning message said your site might be hyjacked. That is never a good thing.

We have a shared SSL, I'm working on that right now. OMNIS is our provider. Is there anyway to get that validated, or do I have to get a full on SSL to not have that error pop up?

gonebored Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 Ask your host or in General Support. I don't know the answer. Thanks for all the help. I'll see what I can do. I just figured maybe it could be somewhere in the code... That I could designate OMNIS as my host, and thus eliminate the confusion.
tastar Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 It looks like you have a good selection of stuff. I don't know anything about hydroponics and didn't learn anything about it from your site (other than it seems to be very complex). Adding some basic intro material that can be accessed within the site would be helpful. You have a bunch of typo's, including a couple in the Shipping and Returns page and some that I found in product descriptions. And, the no returns for any reason deal sounds too harsh. You could explain why that is your policy or be more diplomatic about its presentation. I don't like the "We Price Beat" in the header - it seems to provide the wrong emphasis. You seem to have a very thorough selection of products which implies that you know the business. So, maybe the emphasis should be your knowledge of the products that you sell. It was easy to find the Our Pricing link (especially since it is in red) your price matching - maybe you should be saying "We Know How to Grow" in your header. Your left and right columns could be narrower, which would tighten the layout. And, I went to a page that had a large image and the image pushed the overall width beyond my 1024px screen size. The center of the site should be a fixed width and the overall width shouldn't bounce around (in my opinion). And, maybe you should consult with a designer to make the site look a little more polished. You have done a nice job with contributions and have a good basis for moving forward. Tony

insyspider Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I don't care for the blue gel buttons with the green color scheme, but that's a matter of preference. Remove # of requests at bottom of site. I see no purpose for this. Top & Catalog appear to link to same thing. If so, remove one. I find customers like to check shipping and total costs of items in my cart without setting up an account. There is a contribution for this. Nice site. Good luck with it and keep up the hard work; it will pay off!

Might want to beef up your privacy statement. I've also never been big on the hit counter in the footer. Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?
gonebored Posted March 23, 2006 Author Posted March 23, 2006 Thank you all for your information. I like the pointers, I will see what i can do in the next few days. I especially liked the We know how to grow. I will work on that.
