pjb Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 With the PayPal payment method should the customer details be transferred to the PayPal site automatically from Osc? If not, can this be done? Yes/No please anyone in the know? If yes please provide info Thanks
ski2bbad Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 The way I understand it is that OSC will pass the order information to paypal. Once the customer arrives at the paypal checkout, paypal uses the information entered by the customer while in the paypal payment screen (if customer has a paypal account it uses that information otherwise it gives the customer an option to sign up with paypal). The information the customer enters in OSC is the information that the store owner uses to send the good to the customer once order has been paid. You might want to get a second opinion on this, but I beleive that's how it works. Good luck. ski With the PayPal payment method should the customer details be transferred to the PayPal site automatically from Osc? If not, can this be done? Yes/No please anyone in the know? pjb Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 Thanks ski, At the moment the customer details i.e. address etc. are not feeding through to paypal. I have installed PWA and thought that this might be the cause of the problem or it may be something else? I be grateful if you have any info to share about this. I would like to find where the problem is and try and sort it? Thank you Pete
ski2bbad Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Thanks ski, At the moment the customer details i.e. address etc. are not feeding through to paypal. I have installed PWA and thought that this might be the cause of the problem or it may be something else? I be grateful if you have any info to share about this. I would like to find where the problem is and try and sort it? Thank you Pete Pete, as I explained on my last post OSC does not pass customer detail to paypal. Paypal just process the customer's payment. Both entities work independently of one another as far as customer information goes. Customer paying for their purchases have their address info with Paypal which once paid is transferred to your paypal account (minus fees). Once the transaction is completed then paypal returns your customer to your site. Whatever address information the customer has provided to you on your site stays in your database (which you can access it via your store's admin). ALL PAYPAL DOES IS PROCESS PAYMENT. The only info passed along from OSC to PayPal is the shopping cart information (quantity, price, tax, discounts) and the account to be credited with the funds (your PayPal account) nothing else. Hope this clarifies a bit. Ski
pjb Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 Thanks, it doe?s clarify; it?s not obvious from my post, but I was hoping that someone else might chip in and lead me to something useful about passing on customer details. I posted a few similar request and I guess it hasn?t been done because no one has been able tell me about any contributions that might help. I have seen other carts were the details can be passed on for various card processing companies. My personal opinion is that the Osc check-out process is ?too much? a simpler solution would be ideal. However it has some great features and I can see why it suit?s many. Anyway thanks again I can stop wasting time on this Pete

OSC is a very powerful program and whatever customer information you want to pass along during order processing, OSC will be able to handle it. The limitation in passing customer information I mentioned above is a PayPal limitation and not OSC. Just think about it, PayPal is free (except for the small fees you pay for each transaction) and you don't need a contract. Thus they will offer only the very basic options (price, quantity, tax). There are hundreds of Merchant Account Business and Gateway Processors that are able to customize their services to meet you needs, but of course they all have a nice price tag to go with their services. If you choose to go that route your OSC will be able to handle it easily. Furthermore, if you look at what some of these companies offer as "their" shopping cart more closely, you will find out that they are in actuality either OSC based or a tailored OSC to meed their customer needs. I may be wrong, but OSC is one of the most powerful and versitle ecommerce programs out there. It may not seem that way to some fs us who doesn't know much about PHP, but ask the experts and they will be the first one to tell you that OSC is very solid and that there are some very talented people working on it on a daily basis; some of them are on this forum right now. In any event, good luck and keep at it . . . . . I've been stuck on a problem for over 4 days now, but I will figure it out soon enough. Cheers. ski
