Hi, i signed up with a hosting company thinkin i could just transfer a website i already made on a freewebsite. Turns out i cant and that i am to use OSCommerce, i have managed to install it but dont know where to go next.

I'm not an advanced coding / html or computer lingo user, i can use and know the basics-intermediate level stuff.

Basically i have done the install thing and now i need to go to the OSCommerce page, which is mysite/oscommerce/admin, but i go to go to that and it asks for my password etc which i give then it says this:

"Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory."

What the hell does that mean? -What do i do? -If there is someone out there who knows what they doing please help me :(

PLEASE HELP ME!

Got the same problem here today as well, except my oscommerce was working fine up till now. Was busy in the

Admin section going through the settings. Next thing nothing anymore.... Maybe its a problem on the hosting side and something went down. Need to do some research on this one and if neccessary contact the admin people that do the hosting.

Hi

If you go to the Installation and Configuration section of the Forum, then you will find the help you need there. If you just search that forum, this question is asked most days I think.

Hope that helps.

Scott

THANKS! -I will have a look.

Hi

As a newbie myself I understand the frustration. I had exactly the same message this weekend when I

signed up for my hosting and downloaded my files.

I just logged a call with my hosting helpdesk and they sorted it within 5 minutes. I am sure there are other ways but I was glad to get over the first hurdle.

Your hosting helpdesk may not be so accomodating but maybe it is a common problem easily solved.

Best of luck

:D Sent a mail to my hosting provider and they confimed that they had indeed switched off the "register_globals" parameter due to security reasons.

Anyway the solution is as follows:

You create a PHP.INI file (normal text file, nothing fancy..can use Notepad for this) and put "register_globals=On" (without the quotes!)

into the file.....just the one line, nothing more and nothing less.

This file you then put into the catalog and catalog/admin directories. That solved my problem and and I'm back on the air again.
