Installation Problem

Hello and thank you for reading,

I can't seem to figure out how to change the permissions of the includes/configure.php or any other file.

I am running apache 2.0.55, PHP 4.4.2, MySQL 4.0.26, and phpmyadmin 2.6.4 I am running the site local on my windows XP Pro laptop. The install went great otherwise, but when I right click on any of the files in do not get an option to change permissions. Under Right click/Properties it says "this server does not support changing file permissions". Is there a way around this? My site has the red error bar telling me it is susceptible to security issues. Thanks for any help!

I'm guessing but I suspect the account you're logged into your XP Pro account does not have Administrator priviledges. Either change the privileges to that account to have administrator rights or just log out of that account and log in as administrator to change the file permission.

I'm installing OSC on my laptop also in order to demo my website at a tradeshow this weekend (I couldn't afford to purchase the live Internet connection |-) ). I ran into that same problem and fixed it too. But I'm running into other problems getting OSC to properly work on my Windows XP Pro laptop.

Can you post your configure.php files (both include/configure.php as well as admin/include/configure.php) so I can see how your configuration is setup in Windows - since you mentioned it was working ok. My LINUX version of the site is alot more complex for the configure.php file - complexity I don't need on my windows machine. I'm 99.9% sure that my current problems are associated with my configure.php file.

Galto,

I am listed as the administrator and can change file permissions while the files are in my C: drive. It is only after I ftp: them up onto my localhost that I cannot modify the permissions. I have wrestled with this for the last 12+ hrs. strait and for the life of me I cannot figure it out. It is probably something extremely simple, but who knows. Does anyone else have any ideas? I followed the installation instructions to a "T", but can't seem to change permissions on folders. Is it in the .htaccess? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Galto--As far as the settings for my configure.php files--they are exactly the same as it comes when first unzipped--I did not change anything. That part of the installion worked great for me. I wish I could be of some help to you, but I am somewhat lost in the dark!

On a local install you don't chmod files. Right-click on the file in question (configure.php) and tick the Read Only box and then click Apply. That's all!

I seem to have the same problem here. But I have allready uploaded my configure.php to my webspace. Wenn I try to change the policy of configure.php to 400 or 444, it automaticly jumps to 600 or 644. I do not know how to fix this. Who can help me.

If you are on a Windows server you cannot use FTP and the chmod command to change permissions. You need to use the File Manager in your web hosting control panel.

Depending on the server setup the correct configure.php permissions can be either 644, 444 or 400.
