bobsi18
Hi there... As stated above, I'm a complete beginner when it comes to php. I am fairly confident with my skills in HTML, but that's as far as it goes... I have a full online shop running (using 'shopping cart software') but have decided to seriously investigate oscommerce, because it offers so many more functions than my software. As I said, I'm a complete beginner, and would be happy with some pointers as to where to go for more help, etc. I've successfully installed a copy of oscommerce and have started playing with it. I thought first step was to install the contributions I want and so I have also installed: - Seperate Price per Customer (SPPC) - AusPost Flatrates - Credit Class Give vouchers (CCGV) v1.51a [half] Some of the other contributions I want to install are: - Purchase without account - Australian Bank Transfer - Add a printable catalog - Add weight and weight total to cart - Add weight to product attributes - Some kind of import function And a few more that I found but have since lost (will have to find them again  ). I've only installed half of CCGV because I soon realised that some of the files would need to be edited because of the SPPC installation and that's where my problems begin. 1. Is there anywhere out there on the net where I can get an understanding of editing php - from a complete beginners perspective? Also, is there a preferred editor? I have looked at the files using notepad, and they are a bit confusing. I know with some HTML editors, they colour code the tags and so forth, making it easier to see where one bit begins and one bit ends. Something like this would be great. 2. Is there a suggested order when I'm installing the different modules? I installed SPPC first, after reading the forums, because it seemed that most of the probs occured when it was being installed onto heavily modified shops. What about the other modules, any suggestions? Sorry about the length of this post, I want to stress that I am a complete novice when it comes to php, and would love to figure it out, I'm just not sure which way to go. Any suggestions given will be appreciated! Many Thanks, Barbara
petercascio
Some HTML editors can be used to edit PHP files. I use Dreamweaver (you need a recent version) in code mode and sometimes HotDog, an Australian product! As for learning about PHP this is a good start: http://www.php.net/docs.php If you don't get an answer to your question about the order of contrib installations here -- in general support -- ask in the contributions forums. Good luck! Peter
