cpeters Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Good evening all, I have been using creloaded for about a year on my shop. It was a PITA to configure and getting help for it was like pulling hen's teeth. I have decided to dump it and go back to "regular" OSCommerce. I downloaded the latest version, no huhu. My questions relate to the database. I have baked it up both as a full backup and as a .csv file (just in case). Should I now just delete that as well? Or can I point the "new" version of OSC to it and it will pull the data? Any and all help is as always appreciated!
Gazza_Dude Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Hi Chris, Creloaded has a lot of contributions added, around 50 or so and no doubt after a year of using this variant of Oscommerce your Cre Database will be full of data which you are going to need one way or the other to get your new Oscommerce store up and running again. I would not recommend you point your new store to the Cre Database due to the extra tables etc that exist in the database. You will land yourself in all sorts of trouble. Cre is full of bugs as you well know. The best option is to use MySQLDiff which comes with the stock Oscommerce. This file is located in the extras folder. What this neat little proggy does is compares the differences between two databases and then gives you an SQL dump file to use on the new database so that the tables match. Its a lot easier to convert a stock database to a loaded one such as CRE, as you are only adding the extra tables, fields etc that are needed to make them match. The problem you are going to have is downsizing Cre's database to the stock Oscommerce one. So heres what I suggest you do: First make a list of all the contributions you liked in the CRE version and then look for these contributions in the contribution area of this site and download the most stable versions. Install all the contributions to your New Stock Oscommerce store and once you have the site up and running without any bugs your ready for the final step. If you've chosen to follow this route, then I would use PHPMyAdmin to copy the data across from the Cre database to the new one and then test your new store to make sure everythings running as it should. Let me know how it goes and if you need any help with pulling the data from one database to the other then give me a shout and I will give you more details on how to do this. Good luck. And welcome back to Oscommerce! Gazza.... There is no justice ...... Just Us!
cpeters Posted March 2, 2006 Author Posted March 2, 2006 Thanks Gazza! I didn't use any of the contribs (as far as I know) Other than easy populate. May make it easier. I have backed the database up and am about to wipe the store. One of the reasons I came back too was that I can have printed catalogs with this version. My be picking your brain come this weekend. leehayes Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Hi, I've got 2 stores running OSCommerce and a third i just installed CRELoaded on. I have had a good look around CRE and played with bits but I agree it has a few holes & problems. The programming is a bit of a battle to make changes and the admin are is huge. I'm not slating it, but I think I will stick with OSCommerce, its stable and it works. thanks guys Lee

Cre Loaded is an ideal choice for someone with little knowledge of PHP, HTML & MySQL as all the hard work of installing the contributions has been done for you. The most stable version is currently 6.15 with security patch 6151 They are soon to release V6.2 with updated contributions and more new ones, but they are having a few problems with it since I last checked and theres been a lot of hard coding put into the files to make certain contributions work together. Of course, using this variant leaves most users at the mercy of the CRE Loaded Team for future updates etc. Far better to install a stock version of Oscommerce and add your own contributions and build it as you would like it with just the contributions you need. Like you mentioned in your post, Oscommerce is stable and functions from the start, but does require a bit of time & effort to get the contributions installed to improve it. Oscommerce Rocks  Even Actinic can't match it! Gazza.... There is no justice ...... Just Us!
