Hi all, I'm new to the world of OSC, and am trying to set up a store that sells 6 e-books, that are to be downloaded after creditcard payment is successfully made.

i have it all set up with virtual products turned on, and i believe that i have set up the files correctly in the download directory, but i can't see where the user can actually download the products, nor can i see how the download directoy is secured.

basically i am after some sort of tutorial exlpaining how my goal can be achieved.

any help would be much appreciated,

thanks and kind regards,

Hi, I used a download controller contribution and it works perfectly. Here is the link http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...load+controller.

You must use the version I have listed as the others above don't have the sql file in them.

Download / Free Ship /Pay v5.3 MS 2.2 Farrukh Saeed 7 Aug 2003

Trev i think that that contrib allows you to download during the checkout.

If i remember i could cancell the transaction and then log back in and dowload from my history folder.

You may ant to check this out prior to going live.

Just a thought.

Thanks guys for your help,

I have installed the contribution and it seems to be functioning fine, i have all the new options in the admin, and the free shipping module is def. working.

the only thing i can not seem to get working is the actual download >_< . when i put an order through, it follows all the processes fine, but it is as if it is a tangible product, altough in the product attribute section i have set it up as a downloadable product.

i am just unsure of what i am missing ?!?!?! Although, knowing me, i am sure it is something simple

Thanks again for you help,

Have you set the product name exactly as it is on your site? I also set my shipping for downloads to zero.

See if that helps.

As for coastie I had a look and I didn't go to confirm and bailed out. Then I logged back in but couldn't find any history folder and the product definately wasn't there to be downloaded. How ever I will look further. Thanks for the tip.

Ok, this is how i have it configed.

Create a product. Then go into product options and select the product that you have just created. enter the file name exactly as it is in the download directory including extension and click insert.

You should be able to login and purchase the product and click the download button at the confirm order page to download.

I forgot, Don't forget to set up your ORDER STATUS under Localization. If the product isn't there then it may be set to default which is good so then you have to go into your adminand update the order accordingly. If you have received payment and have updated the order then the download should appear.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo so close!

thanks guys, i'm nearly there!

i did have to change the localization section, and also it seems i had to add a product attribute.

i just added the product, then the download information, without putting anything under the product options, and option values sections.

the only problem i am now having is that it says there is one download link bellow, and has a nicely set out table with the product namd and amt. downloads left, but there is no actual hyperlink to the product

ill keep having a play and let you know what i come up with.

Thanks again for all you help, and sorry about my late reply, i have a painful job yesterday and was unable to view the forum until this morning.

bests,

woopcha!!! have the download button up, now a slightly different issue...

Not Found

The requested URL /md/bookshelf/pub/.jtkkclybxurfbcix/md_seduction_by_slavery.pdf was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

would this be a permission related issue, or a server config related issue?

Thanks again for all you time,

How did you get it to work? I got the same thing you got where it takes you through the order process and says "Download:" but no link is showing up to download the product.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi richard, i just followed all the above advice, and made sure that in the products attributes section, there was atealst one product option (i made one called "Download"), and one value for that (i made one called "Download Only").

I then just edited my products attributes so they looked something like:

Product Name: Murder By Medication

Option Name: Download:

Option Value: Download Only

Value Price 0.000 (as i didn't want to add an adtional amt to the product price)

File Name: md_murder_by_medication.pdf

Expiry Days: 2

Max Downloads: 2

and then after that it just started working.

i did also shut down all my browser windows to ensure there are no session variables stored... but i am unsure if this had an affect on the result... but it's worth a shot

i hope this helps

I had many issues with this contribution.

Try creating a new order in your site. Go through the checkout process until you get to the point wher you actually make the payment. Close your browser. Reload your site and log in to the account that you almost made the payment for. Go to My Account, click on the most recent order and see if the download is available. If the link is there then don't use this for any type of digital download.

I also tried the Download Controller and was unable to get it to work correctly.

I finally ended up using the PayPal_Shopping_Cart_IPN_v3.1.5 contribution which seems to be working fine.

Hi, I just followed your instructions and it didn't do that at all. You must have it set up incorrectly or I'm not following your instructions properly.

My site tells me order pending. Go into Order Status and check you have the settings right.

Hello,

I made a similar attribute called "Download" and made the value "Yes" and did the same as you pretty much (set the price to $0.00 and modified the expiry days and max downloads) but I am still getting the same thing. Someone mentioned something about a specific file on the contribution has an SQL file .. what is up with that?

I was wondering if someone could PLEASE explain to me how you got your downloadble products working - I've been racking my head over this

I have the config set up as follows:

Enable Download = True

Download by Redirect = True

Expiry (days) = 4

Maximum Downloads = 2

All products have the download attribute set something like this

Product Name Format Download: ZIP 0.0000

and are linked to the product's file in the download directory.

Upon Checkout and Confirmation of Payment (I am using PayPal only for payment) no download link appears... can anyone help me figure out why? PLEASE

Thank you in advanced for your assistance.
