Admin Login error

Hello. I am new at this. I did my install, and everything went smooth with the database. However, in the manual, it says I need to set permission 777 to files and directories. I dont have 777 available in my Website Administrator. Can I use some other permissions? I tried both 755 and 775 to see if i could get this to work, but no luck.

 

When i try to log in to the admin, i get the username/password prompt, and after I submit, i get the following:
