Link Colours causing hairloss

Hi all

 

Beginning to feel like it is my lot to find dumb questions that arn't in the already vast information base.

 

I have my store pretty much working but the colour set i have developed has an issue, as the default link colour is white, which is fine for my main page (centre column) but in the various boxes I have pale background and obviously a few of these use the link colour for the text labels, especially the Categories box,

 

Is it possible to define a second colour for these boxes only.

 

This also seem to cause problems with some of the main content areas as the background is displayed in the main content area, only under certain sets of buttons and under the account creation and login forms.

so I would like to send these transparent (no colour at all) as I have a background pastern that will work with the text.

 

I thought I was beginning to understand the class,function system but it appears not, as most of the things I seem to try crash and burn me.

 

I would be vary great full for any help you can give, I know this will probably be obvious to some of you, but I have been spinning on this for 2 days now and my searches of this forum are just sending me bald. But on the bright side I have picked up some interesting info along the way.
