Need feed back on my site

I need some feed back on my store. It still looks pretty stock though. I changed alot of colors and so on. This is a homemade candle type store for my GF so keep that in mind. I also know that there are some gramatical errors that I still have to fix and more text to add/change.

 

I need the overall site feel and thoughts. I also would like to ask if there would be any contribs out there that anyone might think that would do me good.

 

I still in the rookie stage of the whole designing websites and so on. If things get to complicated I may need some advice. For the most part I understand it though.

 

I will also respect all opinoins so please speak your mind.

The background is dreadful. it is so busy it makes the whole site confusing. I would change it for a plain ivory or pale cream

Ditch the poll its silly. (and doesnt work)

Change the remaining buttons you have not yet changed to match the ones you have.

your fotter doesnt work properly, it moves withe central content (or appears to)

Your terms and conditions are worthless, invest in some proper ones or find some free ones. (same for your privacy notice)

You do not have a physical address, i wouldnt order from youo.

You want my DOB to register, therefore i wouldnt register.

You only ship to usa so why have a list of countries?

You said you are aware of the grammatical erros (and spellings?) you must address these

look at y0our color scheme, is it working? maybe try creating a set of colours from one of the free color web sites based on your predominent color..

 

theres a start for you...

Pretty much what he said... On a positive note though, the buttons you did customize and the little image in the top left corner are good I think... With some work, you can integrate those into a unique website with a distinctive atmosphere I believe, but I would change the top middle banner and remove the single jar on the right... Also, the font color of your box headers are the same color as the background, I'm assuming you wanted to make it look like it was cut out... I wouldn't recommend that, instead, try using a contrasting color to make the titles stand out... Also, for the buttons, I noticed that the Add to Cart font and the Reviews font are drastically different... make it all the same font as the Add to Cart, I didn't check if other buttons didn't match

 

I'd recommend using STS or BTS template contrib, it'll help you change the layout... Good luck!

Hi, thanks for the replies.

 

I know the background stands out like a sore thumb. I know that there is a few more buttons I need to chang. One said something about free terms page or privacy page where do you get this at. I fixed the poll section on the right. Honestly I absolutely agree with you all on the whole background and color, but its my g/f's store and she likes it so as long as shes happy I guess. She wanted a country look and feel to it and with the graphics she gave me, it didnt give me a lot to work with.

 

I have showed it to a few people and there are mixed thoughts about it. Cant please everyone yah know.

 

I will change the suggested, and post back on here when it is complete. It maybe a week before I post due to only being able to work on this at night.

Feel free to copy the ones at this site if they are any use, you could always edit them.

I agree you need to keep her happy, but it may be possible to get a better balance between a pleasng site that visitors will stay on and your g/f's ideas of how the site should look. After all, its not a home site about the family, its meant to be a business that sells online

I agree, but having a usable site that encourages people to browse must be what your aiming for?

i just felt that the way the site currently is it will turn people off, its too busy and hard work to browse because of the chaos in the background.

 

You know people get slated for having stock osc stores whenever they ask for reviews, but a stock osc is clean, simple and intuitive to use. one of my clients has a store that looks remarkably stock, yet the turnover is phenomenal, and the comments in the inbox nearly every day are "what a great simple site," etc.

 

I just think your end user is more important than your g/f (in a way!!) because it is them you need to please, and as your g/f is not a graphic designer you could encourage her to rethink about the overall impact the site is having.

True on the end g/f quote. Thank you for your help on the terms and .... as well. What kind of color scheme do you think that would look good that would go along with what I already have or should i stick to two basic colors light brown and dark brown. Oh I just tought of this she has a not so busy background thats like a funky brown color with little dots or something as soon as I get a change Ill switch it and let you look at.

Ok I changed the background to a milder brown and added the column right back into a few pages and changed some other stuff. Im still workin on the button I think I might go with differnt buttons as well. Maybe something like the stock ones but in dark brown to go with the flow. I agree it looks a lot better now. Thanks for the advice.

Still dunno about the color sceme :P

 

Definitely do matching buttons though.. and get rid of the border on the poll ;)
