tmgrood Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Don't click to order unless you want to buy. My site is now live but im looking for extra criticism, good or bad. Thanks. http://ageeknamedtim.com/ I'm a victim of circumstance
st3ady Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Nice work on your site so far. I think the Header Graphic banner could be a bit more clean or maybe try saving it at a higher resolution in Photoshop (choose 12 for best). Also, your prices are too high! How can you possibly compete with companies like best buy, compusa, and newegg? best of luck to ya

How can you possibly compete with companies like best buy, compusa, and newegg?best of luck to ya I'm working on bringing the prices down. Right now my prices include shipping but I think I need to state that more clearly on the main page. Not sure how to change the Header Graphic banner using Photoshop but I will check in to that. Thanks for your comments. I'm a victim of circumstance

ddp Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Thats strange. I was just surfing through it and it was connecting okay. I just tried again and still no connection. Perhaps because I am using firefox. Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?
tmgrood Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 I just tried again and still no connection. Perhaps because I am using firefox. That could very well be. No one else has notified me of any problems. Thanks for letting me know. Im an equal opportunity website. LOL I'm a victim of circumstance
nycreal Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 That could very well be. No one else has notified me of any problems. Thanks for letting me know. Im an equal opportunity website. LOL Just out of curiosity, why include shipping in the prices? Even though you state it, wouldn't it just be simpler to have the prices without shipping included? Because after all, that is the point of having tax and shipping added separately, to make prices seem lower, so if someone isn't paying attention, they may take your prices at face value... Personally, I'd have the lowest price listed possible just to be safe... and also it makes it harder for customers to evaluate whether or not they're getting a better deal with you or not, because they'd have to check another website, find shipping costs, and add it, then compare... too much hassle, I'd just buy somewhere else where they use industry standards in terms of pricing lol

I also have an Ebay shop and I notice alot of sellers have great looking prices for their computers but when ya look at their shipping they charge about double than I do and im sure thats where they make their profit. I just add in the subtitle to compare my shipping with theirs. I don't know, ive thought of trying what you suggested and I still may do that. I'm a victim of circumstance
duncanjones Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 They may have more expensive shipping prices but as there product price is lower they will definitely get the first look (and for customers where price isnt an issue the only look). You should definitely seperate the shipping and product price.

I just may have to make that change because you two have brought up some really good points. Thanks. I'm a victim of circumstance
Guest Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 personally i like seeing the shipping included but i also maybe see their point. I wonder if can you post both, that would that way people see the deal and the low shipping too.
tmgrood Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 I don't know, I can see both sides have a valid point. Maybe im old and wise but I see how some of these computer sellers on Ebay bait their customers with a low price but then I see how much they charge for shipping. Heck, I just figured it would save the customer from having to put in their zip code and add the shipping. If I would decide to make the shipping seperate I would like to use a calculated shipping, depending on the zip code. Does anyone know if there's a contribuiton for that? Ive searched but no luck. Thanks. I'm a victim of circumstance
abra123cadabra Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 In general nice shop... but (well, that's what you asked for :-) ) I'm personally not too convinced on the orange/black fading bars. Check out your page with firefox and you'll see that on all pages where the products are listed in a table underneath each other with a header bar, this bar is not positioned correctly. ie here: http://ageeknamedtim.com/intel-pentium-socket-c-23.html Also your buttons don't match in colour with the above mentioned bars. Despite that the "continue shopping" button is higher than the others and a different colour. Oh, and before I forget it: all the pictures on ie http://ageeknamedtim.com/ should be aligned to the table grid. Like this it looks a bit out of place. This applies to all pages where you show more than one product in a row. I hope that helps, abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product. Make sure that you always BACKUP the database and the files you are going to change so that you can rollback to a working version if things go wrong.
custodian Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Shipping should be separated. Use UPS live shipping quotes, that way I know I'm not paying an outrageous amount for shipping, especially if I live fairly close to you. You can always 'pad' the weight by default so that you still make a little extra on the shipping (packaging materials, Styrofoam etc...) When I see live shipping quotes, regardless of what the cost says, I feel that it MUST be accurate and they can't possibly send it any cheaper without losing money. Use a online postage system endicia or stamps and print the postage out without the postage cost. I took a typical size box that I ship in, threw in some packaging material and got the weight, added a few more ounces to it and then added that to me tare weight so it's automatically tacked on the shipping weight. Some times I may lose a dollar or two, other times I gain - though it's usually right on the mark! - Either way it all comes out in the wash. Also it looks as though something is missing in the top right side My Account | | Checkout ^--- Cart Contents used to be here in the stock OC I'm using Firefox and the page loads fine for me, no issues. (I tried several times and it's fine) I also feel that the logo is fine. The maximum resolution of 12 in Photoshop will not make to much of a difference (by the human eye), and will only increase the file size. It's currently around 17k, I'd leave it as is. Though I would change the site to go-along with the banner, it's theme and style. Find colors that compliment each other. You currently have three different variations The Red in the logo, the reddish/orange header colors, and the pale red buttons. custodian Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Oh, and before I forget it: all the pictures on ie http://ageeknamedtim.com/ should be aligned to the table grid. Like this it looks a bit out of place. This applies to all pages where you show more than one product in a row. I hope that helps, abra I just checked that and it would see that he does have them alaigned, except they are aligned to the TOP of the gird, and not the bottom. Sinc ethe top of some of the pictrues are white, your mind can't determine the alignment. By aligning to the bottom, (since all items have name under them) the words being underneath the items give the effect of alignment. If the words were on top of the picture, the opposite would apply and it would be fine the way it is. It's an illussion of non-conformity because people are unable to see all elements that are used for aligning the object as they are. My Contributions Henry Smith
abra123cadabra Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 custodian, you might be right about the alignment but whatever the reason, it would disturb me as a customer very much unless I can see that it was done on purpose. The other issue shows on http://ageeknamedtim.com/intel-pentium-socket-c-23.html in Netscape displaying as IE and in Firefox 1.5. I'll try to be a bit more precise: Category Header is Computer Parts. Underneath is a orange/black bar with " Quantity Price Product Name+ Buy Now " on it. On the bottom of this line (should be dark) is a bright orange line. In Firefox it even seems as if the whole bar is moved down and right 1px. abra The First Law of E-Commerce: If the user can't find the product, the user can't buy the product.
