Installing an SSL certificate

If your site is on a shared server you need a dedicated ip address for your website.

Then you need to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR).

Once you have the CSR you need to go and buy a certificate.

Then you need to import the certificate text using the 'Import' function in the SSL part of your hosting control panel.

Each hosting package is different, so you may not be able to do this at all.

You generate a CSR from within your web hosting control panel, under the SSL link.

If there is no SSL link then either your site does not have its own dedicated ip address or else your current web host does not allow you to install certificates yourself - and will only install for you - for a fee!

I'd suggest Geotrust Express SSL. www.ev1servers.net supply them.

Once purchased and installed then either Apache or IIS needs to be rebooted for the change to be recognised. Get your host to reboot, and if they say theirs don't need to be rebooted - get them to do it anyway.

You need to edit both configure.php files, setting enable_ssl to true in both and entering your https pathways.

Thank you guys. It's been great help.

I am to purchase an SSL certificate and my hosting company suggests www.instantssl.com.

Well, would it be matter?

I need to study on SSL certificate but for now it seems what I need is just the CRT text??

Which case, the location wouldn't matter (because hosting company's server doesn't need to communicate with their server??)

Thank you in advance.
