darrenkarp Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Hi all, This is my very first post after almost pulling my hair out in frustration. I discovered oscommerce almost by accident whilst purchasing an item from an online store recently and though what a great idea, I'll set myself up with my own website! I'm in the process of learning Dreamweaver but to be honest with the plethora of downloadble website templates out there I don't think I need to create my own, just a little tweaking here and there. Now comes my utter frustration. The documentation of oscommerce seems to me to be aimed more at the technical / website developer than at newbie's like myself. I want to integrate a shopping cart into my own website but have NO clue as to what to do. Yes, I have hosting and yes I can upload and run oscommerce with its sample 'store', but that's where it ends for me. Can anyone advise me if there is a decent and printable user guide, like a dummies guide to oscommerce out there which can take me to the next step? I want to obviously offer various store payment methods including of course, paypal, but even there there is a plethora of downloadble 'contributions' on the oscommerce site. Which one do I choose, how difficult is it to integrate?, etc. etc. What about normal credit cards? Do I need a merchant account with someone? How does it integrate? This frustration is just the tip of the iceberg! Like most humans, I don't like reading technical manuals but do enjoy following step-by-step guides, perhaps written by someone like me who has done this. Please guys, any help and advice warmly welcomed! Thanks Darren
♥Vger Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Go to www.oscommerce.com and download the pdf document that contains the entire Knowledge Base for osCommerce MS2. That will answer most of your questions. Vger

Working on websites requires patience. It sounds like you do already know much of what you need to get started. Most decent credit card processors require a merchant account. To get a good discount rate it can require some time to build up a reputation as a client that is worthy of a good rate. There are many contributions (modifacations) of that allow various credit card processors to be used with oscommerce. Starting with paypal only is fine. Backup before making changes.
