♥Vger Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 You first need hosting. Go for Linux, not Windows - and it'll make your life easier. Make sure it has PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, and an outgoing (SMTP) mail service on your domain. After you've got that sorted, read the "Quick Install Guide" link below my name, or the Installation Guide in the osCommerce Knowledge Base for more info. Vger

Vger Hi Vger, Thanks so much...your help is greatly appreciated. I will try it out. by the way, is Linux a hosting service category or...?? Sorry...I am new to all these...I am using window xp, does this matters as well? Thanks again..
spax Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Linux is an Operating System, like Windows is an Operating System. Vger is saying don't go for a host that runs Windows OS and servers. Ask for Linux OS, Apache server, PHP and MySQL. If you intend to develop your site remotely on your host, all is cool. But if you want to develop locally, on your PC, you need to install Apache, PHP, MySQL and phpMyAdmin onto it. You can go and download XAMPP or Wamp for free and either one will install everything for you. Good luck!
