You first need hosting. Go for Linux, not Windows - and it'll make your life easier. Make sure it has PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, and an outgoing (SMTP) mail service on your domain.

After you've got that sorted, read the "Quick Install Guide" link below my name, or the Installation Guide in the osCommerce Knowledge Base for more info.

Linux is an Operating System, like Windows is an Operating System. Vger is saying don't go for a host that runs Windows OS and servers. Ask for Linux OS, Apache server, PHP and MySQL.

If you intend to develop your site remotely on your host, all is cool. But if you want to develop locally, on your PC, you need to install Apache, PHP, MySQL and phpMyAdmin onto it.

You can go and download XAMPP or Wamp for free and either one will install everything for you.

Good luck!
