Free Delivery To Preset Addresses - can it be done?

I am looking for the best way to achieve free delivery to preset depot addresses.

 

so upon checkout, the customer would have the option of selecting the depot for the item to be picked up from, and then it would be free - but if they dont want to pick it up - then they would be charged in the normal way.

 

to make it even more complex, i want to limit the customers who see that option to selected customers only - who may have some thing like a code which they would put in whilst creating an account - or just a drop down select box during open account which will ask them if they are a ' local member' -

 

so if yes - local member - then they can have free shipping if they want to pick it up from depot

 

Can anyone point me in the right direction ? Or I am best getting this written for me ?

how many locations you want to have this free shipping applied? If its just a couple then you could duplicate an existing shipping module like flat rate and set it to 0 shipping with the depot title/description as the pickup location.

 

If there are too many then you could deploy a drop-down list with the shipping location and use a single module file. In that case it needs quite a few modifications because you want to have shipping fields supported, pretty much like you have payment fields (like with cc)

thanks for that, i think that there will be an ever expanding list of depots, so maybe i will start with just a few under the suggestion you made, whilst getting the other way sorted.
