Hi,

I have a shop and I?m thinking to open it online too.

I have no experience with Os commerce and only know a bit of HTML and graphic design. Do you think I could do the programming by myself? I mean, is that realistic? Could I learn with books, tutorials and forums or is this just suicidal? I don?t need anything too special, just a basic online shop.

Thanks!

You do not have to any actual programming to install oscommerce. You do need to edit other peoples work though. It might take you some time, it might cause you some frustration, and you might also learn a lot.

Lot's of help available online here.

Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!!

You did do a backup? eh?

Based on what I have seen mentioned here in the forums, this is how a large number of people start out with oscommerce. You will be frustrated and aggravated but if you stick with it, you will also succeed.

I'm begginin' now with it... I only now a little c, c#, html and java.. but only a little... I need to do the shop for my mum... i hope it will be operative someday.

I've been watching the forum and i think it's great.

Well, I must return to fight with the shop ;)

Kisses and Thanks!

I muddled through from basic oscommerce install to some intermediate superficials and coding changes, with just the info from this forum and a few PHP tutorial sites.

I had some moderate to advanced HTML experience, and I know a little visual basic and java but not much.

This is our result: http://halfpricehomeschool.com . It's not 100% modified and tricked out, but we think it's very attractive and functional.

One suggestion... get a host that offers Fantastico, or another way to install oscommerce automatically... it saved me a ton of install headaches. I was able to jump straight to configuring and modifying.

I would say jump right into it and get your hands dirty, just keep a fresh copy of OSC at your fingers.

Also get yourself a good text editor.

When I first started out learning php, I read a book called ?teach yourself php in 24 hours? which was very helpful.

Regards,

Mark :D
