kevincarter Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Hi, I have a shop and I?m thinking to open it online too. I have no experience with Os commerce and only know a bit of HTML and graphic design. Do you think I could do the programming by myself? I mean, is that realistic? Could I learn with books, tutorials and forums or is this just suicidal? I don?t need anything too special, just a basic online shop. Thanks!

You will be frustrated and aggravated but if you stick with it, you will also succeed. Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I muddled through from basic oscommerce install to some intermediate superficials and coding changes, with just the info from this forum and a few PHP tutorial sites. I had some moderate to advanced HTML experience, and I know a little visual basic and java but not much. This is our result: http://halfpricehomeschool.com . It's not 100% modified and tricked out, but we think it's very attractive and functional. One suggestion... get a host that offers Fantastico, or another way to install oscommerce automatically... it saved me a ton of install headaches. I was able to jump straight to configuring and modifying.
njtermite Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I would say jump right into it and get your hands dirty, just keep a fresh copy of OSC at your fingers. Also get yourself a good text editor. When I first started out learning php, I read a book called ?teach yourself php in 24 hours? which was very helpful. Regards, Mark :D
