Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Hardwareplanet and Will32: What are the dimensions of your images? What type are they, JPG, GIF, other? What are the file sizes? I need this info to offer any constructive help.
Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 you could turn-on logging and see the parse times for page loading. At least it will show you whether the php/mysql has the latency or its simply due to image files.

Hi There and thanks for replying, Ok my image sizes and dimensions change according to the pic's For eg: I use Jpg and image sizes are from 37 to 137 Kb, some dimensions can be 300x400, 400x533 , 400x427 etc. I hope this helps. Should there be a standard dimension sixe set to the pic's? Thanks

Avec Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 This thread discusses speed optimization - start there: Store Speed Optimization Have you tested your site using a speed test to see what else might be slowing it down? Check here Website Optimization Analyzer It is either something on the page itself (pictures) or numerous queries to the database. Install a logging contribution to check the later, the Website Optimization Analyzer will check the former It would seem that your pictures are very large (file size) I would strongly suggest a thumbnail contribution. There are a number of them. Go to the contributions page and search on 'thumbnails'. I use the 'On the Fly' Auto Thumnailer using GD Library and it works very nicely. My product images are beween 45 and 90 kb, so the 'click to enlarge' image is high quality, but the thumbnails on the pages are around 10 kb or less so the page opens much faster. You should see alot of improvement.
